Title: Archangel MKII problem
Post by: Insomniac34 on November 15, 2008, 10:14:49 am
Hello!
I was browsing FSmods.net for a cool destroyer model to use in a map when I stumbled upon the Archangel MKII model, which looked simply badass. I downloaded it, extracted both .tbm files into data/tables, all of the .pof files into models, and the rest, .pcx and .dds files, into data/maps.

However, when I load up FRED or fly around the ship in game, half of the model is missing. Many armored plates are missing, the engines are floating in mid-air/space, and basically its obvious I'm missing files and I'd like to know what exactly I did wrong in the extraction process.

Thanks a lot!

I would say one of two issues:

1.) you're DL was corrupt, Delete the folder and re-DL it.

2.) The upload is incomplete to begin with.

For testing take your pof and stick it in a folder with just the textures it has, open the pof in MV and click on each texture, the textured part should be the only thing showing.

If you click on a name and only an outline shows up (and is not supposed to be INVISIBLE, viola, you're missing that texture.

Search for those texture names, CHECK any matching textures, there might be an error and good old conversion to 8 Bit PCX at teh minimum should get you back to a workable status until a more better solution can be found.

Worst case scenario: use a different matching or close to matching texture until you can get the proper ones from the author (Trashman right?)

Should take you 5-10 mins max to resolve this or at least diagnose the real problem.

Yep, that sounds like missing textures. Some models use default FS2 textures, and the artist who created them didn't include them.
tiled textures are bad.

A UV mapped destroyer is worse. How big is the archangel again?

I think some of the Textures might be in the Inferno files. Because, both iterations of the Archangel seemed to me to be in line with the INF era ships

well, the Archangel is a juggernaut size ship or bigger, so you probably don't want it anyways.

Strange...which file version is that?
I know I've added all textures to the last version...but I haven't uploaded the Archangel Mk2 to Freespacefiles myself, so someone might have uploaded a older version.

I really need to get off my a** and finish that Archangel Mk2 upgrade....

Too bad I'm the SOTS: AMOC modding mood atm, but I'll be finished with that in a day or two

How about you add paths to the fighter bay. I mean it was sweet that you could fly right into it. But How is it meant to lauch fighters?

Or...was that the Archangel Mk I?

I'd be curious what Insomniac34 has to say, he hasn't posted since...

Is this a Mk II of that Archangel that had the huge blue gun on the front?

I think it was the Mk I that was the Giant Flying Beam Cannon

That's Stratcomm's Archangel.

TrashMan's Archangel is the flat-ish one that's centerline resembles wet navy battleships, both the mk1 and mk2.
