Title: .POF EXporter
Post by: Krallis on November 16, 2008, 08:44:20 am
I noticed that the exporter was for 3DS Max. Does anyone know if their is a version for Softimage XSI because that is the modelling programme that I use and it would be nice to export from that into freespace.

Try Collada export instead http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,54757.0.html (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,54757.0.html)

You may need to log in, but theres logons on bugmenot that work for it.

Sorry it's in Spicious's sig  http://the158th.hard-light.net/spicious/pcs2.7z (http://the158th.hard-light.net/spicious/pcs2.7z) It's PCS2 with Collada import/export

It needs a number of dlls, even more now that I've tried merging it into the latest version of PCS2 and it only builds with the dynamically linked build of wx. Try putting this (http://the158th.hard-light.net/spicious/libcollada14dom21.7z) in the same directory.

Thanks.

EDIT: Still not starting. I've already placed it into the original PCS2 directory as well.

VC2008 Redistributable (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en)?

Yep, that was it :)
Much thanks!

EDIT:
Well, I'm getting an "instance_geometry not found for detail0" error now...
Good thing is PCS2 starts, and I can see the texture list.

EDIT2: HELP?

You have to a.) move the pivot point to the center of the model. b.) move the model to (0,0,0). c.) do a reset x-form.

Techinally a & b aren't needed, but doing them will save you from a headache latter one.

So how. Is it possible to export SCENE files from SOFTIMAGE XSI. to .POF format.

I need to know all the programmes I need and a guid on how to do it, as ive only ever exported as .psk with ActorX in XSI before.

Check if Softimage XSI can export to COLLADA (*.DAE). (google)
If it can, then just follow the links in the thread to get Collada and the version of PCS2 that supports it.

I haven't tried it out, but XSI Mod Tool supports Collada through the Crosswalk application included with the Mod Tool installation.

I got POF 2.0.3 and it wont import my .DAE file.

Ok aswell on the wiki it says things like gun banks should be children of a "node" called gunbankXX. It does this aswell for thrusters etc.

-What are these nodes (Im using XSI and I have a feeling that I should use nulls. But I i'd like to know what hes rederring to by nodes so I can see what he means.)

-Does this children/parenting thing doen in the modelling programme.

-How Can I get 2.0.3 PCS2 to actually find my .DAE files.

You need to download the version of PCS2 in THIS thread (or in Spicious sig).
Then it should import your DAE files.

The one from Spicious' sig wont work because its zipped up as a .7z file.

You could DL 7zip, it's free. The latest Winrar should also be able to handle 7z archives, i rarely have corrupt files after extracting.

No, not the default one.
You need to get the one in that 7z.

Did you read the thread? I had the same error and got the information I needed to fix it.
Get the DLL, then get VC2008 Redistributable.

What .exe?

Not the exe, it's the DLL you are supposed to place into the folder of the PCS2 you have to DL from Spicious sig.

It sounds like you read the Wiki article on the Collada Importer (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Collada_Importer)?  If not read it.  At the bottom I wrote the instructions to get the PCS2 build with Collada support running.  The bottom of the page also contains the same link that is in Spicious' sig, so unless he changes that link, the wiki page should also always link to the latest version.  You need to install PCS2.0.3 from the Sourceforge link on the PCS2 wiki page, replace that version's pcs2.exe with the one in Spicious' 7zip file (also copy over the wx* files that are now being included in that archive), then copy the libcollada dll file to the pcs2 folder, and finally install the VC2008 if you didn't yet, but it sounded like you already did.  Now the Collada version should run, I just tested this on Friday and it worked just fine for me.
