does somebody remember that guy who made the the squad logos for btrl?
will they be used here? and will they be useful (on an ingame-viper)? :wtf:
-
If you mean the ones by VectorGeek, Ace secured permission for them from what I am aware of.
They'll definitely appear on your pilot file in-game but we're undecided on whether they should appear in-game. On one hand they help distinguish you in a multiplayer game but on the other they do make multiplayer less like the show since Vipers are basically all the same apart from name plates.
-
Pulling this out of my dodgy memory, but didn't Pegasus Vipers have some customisation? They had kill markers, so presumably could have had squadron logos too? Don't have access to my DVDs to get a screenshot though.
What's the downside of having the logos appear in-game? It's fairly unlikely that you'll have time to ogle them in battle anyway, so I don't think it'd detract aesthetically. But if it requires work that would best be spent elsewhere... I'm understanding :)

As far as I know there's no reference to squadrons in BSG - at least not in the common way( _number_st/nd/rd/th _name_).
-
Sure there is, you just have to pay attention to set backgrounds. This is the most easily accessible example: http://www.battlestarprops.com/war-room-chalkboard/ (http://www.battlestarprops.com/war-room-chalkboard/). VectorGeek had done a very detailed grabbing of examples which were found here and there throughout the series, and created beautiful clean examples of those squad logos
-
I think it would be cool feature. same like the customizable spraything(graffiti) in counterstrike, not a must have. so that it only will be done when somebody got to much time for it.
and enki's chalkboard is a reason too, instead of having 5 diffrent viper's just for the squadlogos. and when this is done its not a far step of having a "shotcount" on a viper like the pegasus vipers have.

*tries to imagine what a Viper with my killcount would look like* :p

From the end of S3 E10. There's definitely a hierarchy but I don't recall ever seeing names of any squadrons.

I just finished watching all 4 seasons in about 3 weeks and don't even remember seeing a chalkboard like the one Enki posted, what episode is that from? Doesn't seem they did a very good job on continuity on that board either, seeing as how neither apollo or starbuck is on there, and if it was during the period where neither of them were flying hotdog should be on there *shrug*
Alpha 1 wouldn't have room on his viper for all the kills if he was on Pegasus :p
-
The prop page say it's from the war room and Battlestar Wiki (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/War_Room) has 4 episodes listed.
If the board was a flight schedule it wouldn't be odd for the majors to not be on it all the time. If it's a list of squadron rosters, it would be odd.

then we just count Basestars ;)

Does squadron logo's have any effect on the game ?
-
In multiplayer they can help you visually distinguish between friend and foe in TvT games (and any coop mission where you have wingmen in the same kind of ship as enemies).
-
As well as faction distinctiveness orange/blue coloured thrusters.. :)
-
That won't help you in the slightest if you are playing a Viper fighting other Vipers.
-
...wich should not be the most common of the cases, IIRC.
Starbuck's quote: "We're all friendly. So let's be friendly..." :)
-
In multi there's a good change you'll
see the other players naked fight Vipers in dogfight missions. I'd rely on DRADIS more than on anything else to realize the difference between friendly and hostile fighters. :)
-
Edit: Nvm, was looking at the wrong picture :)
-
I prefer Multi missions without ANY targeting aid and primitive/ no sensors ( my famous atrco mission :D).
For such missions it would be great to distinguish between fighters of the same kind, and since you have to come close ( closer then with all targeting aids ) to the - possible - enemy fighter, squad logos would be perfect.

We'll just have to start color-coding them like Wedge. :p
-
Digital readout below the cockpit that updates as you get kills. :D
-
Or a holo-projector that beams a Q3 arena /
UT style "godlike" or "unstoppable" above your fighter.
Srsly . . .

And what's wrong with you being Godlike? You are Alpha 1 after all. Godlike is just part of the job description.

By the way - how is it with wing names in BSG? I remember that Galactica' CAG used color-named wings in training missions, but I can't remember if it was the same in regular combat. If I remember correctly, they ususally used callsigns. What system of wing names will be in use in Diaspora?
-
Prob similar to BtRL I'd imagine, ie red, blue etc

This just brings up a rather confusingly benign meme:
Red Leader reporting in.
