So, I want a campaign to end when the player dies. But the end-campaign SEXP plays the detonation of Capella and Petrarch's speech cutscenes.
Is there any way around this?
-
Not easily. At the moment there is no way to turn off the debriefing from within the mission. If there was you could easily do it in the campaign file but at the moment you're kinda screwed by the fact that you'll get a debrief.
If you're willing to completely lose them from that mission then using the campaign end-mission option will work.
-
Maybe you can circumvent the problem...
You may have a debriefing reporting the player's death and then a cutscene mission(credits and/or commemoration) with no debrief. I'm not sure, though.
-
The mission has no debriefing by default (meaning, in Mission Specs, "no debrief" is checked). But other missions will follow after it, if the player survives this one. Only if the player dies here, the campaign should end.
Kara, what is "the campaign end-mission option"?
-
In the campaign editor not the Events Editor.
-
Okay, I'll try that. Thanks in advance!

So is this a scenario where if the player dies the campaign ends, but if they don't die the campaign proceeds?
That sounds wildly aggravating. Thank goodness for the tech room!
-
That's pretty cool. If the player gets told about it before hand, they will really play it as if they were a real pilot in 2335. :)

It depends on how it's done. If we're talking about a mission where the player gets to make a choice between a heroic death and living to play a few more missions it might work as the death would be a natural campaign ending point.
On the other hand if we're talking about "Die in this mission and you have to start the whole thing again!" then we're taking the express train to ****ty town.
-
well, if you are looking for a campaign that lets the player die ingame and advance to the next mission afterwards (even if the next mission is just the credits), play my DarkChildren for TBP.
There, you die at the end.

It's... somewhere in between :nervous: But you can always go to the campaign room and retry the mission you died in, no? Anyhow, there are no missions following the player's death.
-
Once a campaign ends the only way to play it via the ready room is to restart it. You can play the missions in the tech room individually but even then you can't progress, see cutscenes or even actually play missions after the one you died in (unless you use CTRL + SHIFT + S to expose them).
NB. The FS2 main campaign did not end. That is why you can replay the last mission. :v: deliberately left the campaign unended so you could see the other ending.
-
Make an ending cutscene that replaces the FS2 ending video in your campaign! ;7

This is only supposed to happen if the active campaign is the default FreeSpace2 campaign (in SCP anyway). Otherwise it's a bug.

Oh... hmm... Perhaps I shouldn't do it then...

Well, the SEXP description kinda says that it's for use by the default campaign only. It's just not stated very clearly IMHO, which is why I tried it :D

When a SEXP description says "should" you must follow its hint instead.
