Well can anyone pass me a FRED2 build that has the campaign editor working ASAP ?
The one in the FRED2 in the last DVD release does not work for me (both normal and debug, INF and not). I have a ready-to-release 2 missions DEMO as a present for yr guys this weekend but the damn campaign editor died mysteriously ;7.
Help please !

Just for the sake of knowing it I have also tried vid's suggestion (which included praying) but god didn't help either.
Should I pray for buddha instead ?

again, Vid's tips:
- quit Fred
- remove everything from your TBP/data/missions folder
- move the missions of the campaign in TBP/data/missions. Nothing else should be in there.
- restart and don't load a mission, go for the editor right away
- do your missions and loadout stuff. Do it without saving anything.
- try to be sure what to do in the firstplace. Don't reedit stuff, don't make changes but then press cancel.
- after you are done: try saving and pray if you believe in some kind of higher being(s)
IF it crashes: Best restart your PC before trying again.
Note: I don't have any problems with the CE anymore, since I reinstalled. But only try that if you are extremely desperate.

Thanks Vid ! The mystery is revealed. I put some stupid thing in the missions folder that is why it did not work.

Actually there is a known bug with 3.6.9 builds that causes the Campaign Editor to crash FRED. It does not affect debug builds though so you can always run that instead. You'll probably get a few (skipable) errors when running it though.
The crashes are semi-random so sometimes you can get into the release build to actually make the campaign file.

Just on a quick question to FRED begineer who has some ides, how do you make a capship just stand in place and shoot beams to the enemy right in front if it? I tried several like "play dead", but once I have already set it a waypoint I find it hard to give it an event or command that makes it just to stand still and shoot.

It does not affect debug builds though
When I experienced these crashes it affected both builds. Vidmaster's suggestions fixed the problem though.

You could simply clear all orders for that ship using the SEXP. That would make it come to a halt and if in range fire.
