Title: TBP compressed?
Post by: dragonsniper on November 21, 2008, 06:45:52 pm
Is 1.8 gig the smallest you can get it? (If it is then it must be one freakin' huge mod!)

1.8gig is the DVD If you just want the Installer version it's about 800 meg but doesn't include any of the extras or campaigns.

So for 800 meg I can get the basic game?

Yes 800 meg is the core files, EMW demo and Raider wars.  Everything else would need to be downloaded separately.

800mb is still too big for ME to download... That's the only reason I haven't played the current version of TBP. Though, I suppose it ain't a big loss, since I never saw any of B5 series anyway...

I decided to watch B5 partially because of TBP.

You really should watch it, you are missing a great story.

It's not shown in Lithuania. And I have a policy against downloading files larger than 400mb. uTorrent makes the PC lag when downloading, ruins internet connection, and etc. And it takes long. TBP isn't even in a torrent. So I can't watch the show, can't download the mod and can't download the series.

Me third. I would always imagine Minbari as Star Wreck's "Minibaari"  ;).

:wtf: Oohkay, I won't touch that subject although I'm baffled by it. Unless of course you have monthly bandwidth limits imposed on you by your ISP, which sucks.

Anyhow;
uTorrent makes the PC lag when downloading, ruins internet connection, and etc.
You haven't properly configured your uTorrent settings as far as bandwidth and number of concurrent connections go. You may also have to reduce number of half-open connections. Your broadband router may also be the culprit. Anyway, uTorrent has quite good guides to setting it up properly. http://utorrent.com/guides.php

Letting uTorrent work overnight is usually good solution too. Unless you wary of electric bills or still living with your parents and they don't like your heater. :p

I am against downloading files larger than 400mb because it takes a damn long time to download them. My download speed is usually at 50-60kb/s if the internet is not used in the 2nd PC ( cause then it's at half the speed ).

Yea. My PC used to sound like a World War 2 heavy bomber. Now it reminds me of a jet fighter going at low speed, so I wouldn't be able to sleep myself. And since I am 16, I am obviously living with my family, so that's 2 reasons why I can't leave it overnight.

What I am actually asking for though, is for TBP to be compressed into an archive and then uploaded. I am sure that it'd be a much smaller file, and more friendly for download. On the other hand, I can barely play FS2 with the mediavps on, so TBP wouldn't even work, I guess.

Sorry mate but the installer and the DVD are ALREADY COMPRESSED, throwing either into zip or rar file will not help get the file size more than a few meg. Believe me when I say that I did everything possible to get the file size down as low as possible, there is just a hellvalot of content (this is a good thing ;)). The Installer and the DVD are about as small as they are going to get. However, if you look on the release threads, there are options to download the Installer or DVD in 100 mb chunks.

I even put up one for the DVD in 20 meg chunks.
