As the title states, FreeSpace will crash on me every now and then. It stops at the main deck screen (after signing in) and just crashes. The music will still play, but everything else freezes. This is a problem to me because whenever it does freeze, the computer requires a full reboot. Thanks for any ideas. :)

What build? System specs? Does this or similar things happen with other games?
-
It's build 3.6.10 and file version 1.03.01 (I think) Hope that helps :D
-
Try other builds. If they also crash, be worried. If not, you've succesfully found a bug which you must report to Mantis.
-
I rarely use 3.6.9, but I'm sure it happened to it also.
How would I report it to Mantis? (I've never had to do it before.)
-
Being certain is the lesson of the day here. If you are certain this is only happening with that one build, you should Mantis it. If, on the other hand, this also happens with other builds, it is much more likely that the fault is in your computer, one way or another. If it is software-related, we would benefit fomr your system specs (CPU-Z and GPU-Z in my signature can do wonders). If it is hardware-related, you will need to spend money to buy whichever component it is that is breaking down.
Edit: One other good course of action is to make sure you have the latest drivers for everything, most importantly for your graphics card and soundcard.

It won't be the graphics or sound card. They're new (late 2007 new.) I'm 99% sure it's crashed with 3.6.9 atleast once. And it's not every time I get on. Only about once out of 20 times that I get on will it crash. And it'll usually only crash if I leave the main screen on for over 10 seconds.
(How would I report it to Mantis. Never used Mantis, and it may be a stupid question, but I'll need to know.) :)

I'll repeat what I said once and then I'll go to sleep (it's 1AM here):
- Since at the moment it doesn't yet sound like a bug, I won't tell you how to use Mantis since there's no point in reporting a bug if there isn't one.
- If you meant that your graphics card and sound card cannot be breaking down since they're "new", don't count on it. Technology breaks sooner or later.
- System specs (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php), system specs (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1207/TechPowerUp_GPU-Z_v0.2.8.html), system specs (http://omglol.kerrolisaa.com/1/9805.jpg).
- Update your drivers (when talking about drivers, "2007" isn't that new).
-
Thanks. It's true that technology breaks sooner or later, but for everything else they works just fine. Thanks for the other stuff. I'll look into it in a bit.

Why didn't anyone beam this one?

Probably because very few people care about the beams. And even still, one per customer. Not two, not three; one.
