Title: Never a dull moment in Bangkok, apparently.
Post by: Darius on November 25, 2008, 10:26:40 pm
It's a good thing I didn't go there last week... (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7749399.stm).

Was going to fly to Bangkok next week to visit my dad, but after this incident I think I'll wait till next month until things settle down. It wasn't so bad before when they were using grenades (few and far between and restricted to Government House), now they're using handguns and are rioting in wider parts of the city.

What manner of douchebaggery is this? I can get that the protesters are pissed with the government, but whoever thought "Hey! I know, we'll storm an airport" is using twisted logic.

I think they're out in the open air though, so it somewhat limits riot gas effectiveness.

But I mean, damn, what a silly city.

Given the amount of money Thailand makes from tourism an airport is actually a quite sensible target.

I'm surprised they can riot there, this is the place where people joke about the police shooting you for littering...

In Thailand, they do. Thailand is famous for the popularity of its king.
