I finally put a ship into a battle test.
The shielded Sathanas Vs GTI Galatea II (no shield) and Alpha Wing (4 Boanerges packing Maxim and Helios)
Ended with 2 survivors of Alpha Wing and the Galatea at 13% + 1 support ship (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I'm planning a total of 30 more ships from freighters, awacs to destroyers!

Heheh. The beams would do all the damage obviously, because they can bypass the shield. I wonder if the shield integrity of the Sathanas was reduce at all by the end of the fight. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)

The shield will even protect cargo.

The Lilith/Cain and the Argo are ready.
As you can see I've started messing with the colour of the shields.
I need the best colours (RGB Values in table) for each of the species so does anyone have any ideas?
Shivan Red = ?
Terran Blue = ?
Vasudan Green = ?

Well I imagine all the colours should be fairly light. So it would go something like this:
Shivan (light red) - 90, 0, 0
Terran (light blue) - 0, 0, 90
Vasudan (light green) - 0, 90, 0
Vasudan (light yellow) - 50, 70, 0

I was making up those RGB values off the top of my head. Those were my estimations of the actual colours that the shields glow - I just realised that making the other colour values low (ie. 0) would make the colour darker, not lighter. Stupid Setekh. There's 33 ships inside 3 packs as my 56k modem wouldn't upload a 4mb zip file. All three come with the same ships.tbl so only keep one.

So far I've had no crashes. As you can see from the pic in my first post I was fighting the shielded Sathanas for over 13 minutes!

Sweet...next question. How hard is it to take down the shields on some of those? Do fighters have any chance?

Depends on the capship and no with the big destroyers but fighters can pass through the shields. But you can set your own strength depending what you need it for (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Nope and it hurts at close range so don't hit the shield with a helios at close range.
I thought I was inside the shield but was on the edge and fired a Helios at one of its beam turrets, the bomb hit the shield about 150m from my bomber.

Shields now mean I'll have to redo the GTTC Warrior. It has no shields, and its torpedo does very little damage to shields. It's too obselete now. Time to start messing with things again (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Would it be possible to make a torpedo which can go straight through the shields? If so I may put PHASE shields on my capships in the Wing Commander mod through which only torpedoes can travel. MWAHAHAHA

That one's a toughy. AFAIK only beams can bypass shields.

Beams, Fighters and exploding Capships can pass through the shields.

Dunno, I'm trying to get it to actually work in the original campaign. That's why it's not out yet. I rewrote the missions to include it, but the campaign still uses the old ones.

That's wierd. It doesn't take the campaign mission out of the Missions directory first?
You could change the mission, then recompile it back into the VP file...would THAT work?

This lucifer has the same shield as the FS2 version. I backwards converted it like I did with the other FS2 ships.
I might rebuild the campaign from scratch so it doesn't have that problem. I just need to write a campaign file.

I made a short 30 second trailer of the shield mod, to show its capabilities. It's about 1.5mb and does not have any sound. It's a group of fighters and the Galatea II attacking a Sathanas. Fighters include Herc III, Apollo, Valkyre and Ulysees III (current skin)

This is what I did:
Run Hypercam,
Set the screen area to 640*480. (fs size)
Set the frame rate to 10fps at 75% compression.
Make sure record sound and record cursor are deselected.
Keep it open but don't record.
Run Freespace.
Get to where you want to be, press escape to bring up the quit menu. Press Alt-Tab to retirn to Hypercam. Start recording, and click on freespace in the taskbar. Start playing. Quit and finnish recording.
A 56 second file was about 11mb and had many black frames which gave a flashing effect. You then need to edit the file to get rid of the extra frames you don't need. I used Animation Shop 3 (comes with PSP 7) My file was 56 seconds and became 30 seconds. Then compress it using a plugin (I used DivX Mpeg-4 DVD encoder)

I think there server is down. I've added a mirror link to one of my other webspaces. I tested it and it works. The trailer isn't up on this server though but the three fs2 packs and the fs1 Lucifer are. There's not much space left on this one.
