Title: Derelict Campaign
Post by: ilves on December 01, 2008, 09:20:19 pm
I just finished the Derelict campaign, and to the guys who made it, that was AWESOME.  I had nearly as much fun playing as I did the original FS2 campaign...  I really liked the storyline and how it escalated from minor backwater patrols to massive confrontations.  Good job all around.

I haven't played the campaign yet myself, but I am sure I will and should someday. Since I don't have the banner to properly introduce you, I'll leaves it to somebody else. Oh and, Welcome to HLP! :)

haha... thanks for the banner. I'm currently working on getting Blue Planet to work, some reason everytime I fire my primary weapons they're invisible... plus I think Earth isn't there when its supposed to.  *goes off to do some forum searching*

EDIT: found it... needed an .ini pointing to mediavps

You might just be in time - its sequel might be released when you have completed AoA.  ;7

Age of Aquarius is the first chapter/whatever of Blue Planet, with War in Heaven being the second.

Did this ever get voice acting? ... same question for Blue Planet?

Yep, DerelictSCP is voice acted, with a great persona for Mackie. It's great when he says, "The defecation is about to hit the ventilation". I think they are working on the voice acting for Blue Planet.

wat

You said "I think", thereby expressing your uncertainty about the issue. General Battuta merely confirmed that voice acting for Blue Planet is proceeding even as we speak.

Yep, and considering me and Rian are running it, it's sort of official confirmation.

That's awesome to hear... should i hold off on playing the campaign 'till that's done or is it going to be  a while?  Derelict was great even without the voices, but definitely better for it, the acting was well done and was incredibly helpful not having to have to read dialogue in the middle of combat.

I haven't started Blue planet yet since I just got the weapons and textures to work, but the opening cut scene was nice.

Ha ha, no. Don't wait.

We've cast the major parts, but we're waiting to hear back from a lot of actors, and the minor parts are waiting on a complete Age of Aquarius script. I'd rather have Darius working on War in Heaven than doing that.

Blue Planet is brilliant even without voices.

I cant finish the damn Rite of Passage level. The damn governors vessels keeps ramming itself into the station. WTF. Bad programming? Am I SUPPOSED to let his ship get abducted?

No, this issue was somehow related to the MediaVPs. If you're playing the SCP'd version of Derelict without the MediaVPs, the Luxor is positioned incorrectly and the shuttle, with a fixed path, rams itself to death. If you use the MediaVPs, the Luxor should be positioned correctly and you will prevail.

I am playing the SCP'd version WITH MediaVPs 3.6.10. Does the campaign have specific mediavps that need to be added?

Run the FSO Installer again and update Derelict.  There's a patch that fixes this issue as well as a few others (such as support not repairing your subsystems).

I've tried playing Derelict, but in "the deep patrol", the game segfaults a couple seconds after I deploy the third beacon.

I used Turey's installer to get both fs2_open (v 3.6.9) and the Derelict campaign.  I run in a Linux 64-bit environment with no launcher (just a shell script that sets a lot of command-line switches).

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?  If any other information about my set-up might be useful, please ask.

I take it you've also acquired FreeSpace 2 from somewhere?

I reran the mission in a debug build, and it crashed at the same point.  I've attached the fs2_open.log in case it helps.

You don't need these ones.

Have you tried running with the latest nightly build?

Uh, these should really work if they're placed to \Freespace2\.
But they work fine where they are, and don't clutter up the FS2 root directory.  Also this is where the installation script (http://hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Fs2_open_on_Linux/Data_Installation_script) places them by default.

You don't need these ones.
Then perhaps that script should be updated to not copy those two files.

Have you tried running with the latest nightly build?
Where can I find a nightly build for Linux x86_64?

That's weird. Apparently it works, but the original retail installation has the vp files in the root directory. The \data\ subfolder should only be used when there is a need to override some data in the vps without altering the vps themselves. Or more accurately, nothing should ever be done to \freespace2\data\; when modding, one should always use a mod folder (freespace2\modname\) and then apply the same logic with the data folder.

Where can I find a nightly build for Linux x86_64?
The nightly builds board (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,173.0.html). I cannot be held responsible if your 'puter votes for Bush and then explodes after trying this, but I'd suspect the Linux builds work regardless of whether the OS is 32-bit or 64-bit.

The computer doesn't explode, it just throws a tantrum because a 32-bit executable is trying to call 64-bit libraries.

I hope fs2_open doesn't use too many libraries, :doubt: because it seems I have to track down the 32-bit versions of all of them.

I tracked down all the 32-bit libraries, but when I launch the nightly builds, all I get is a blank screen.  The following messages are printed to the console:

My graphics card is an nVidia GeForce 8400 GS with the nVidia v177.82 driver.

Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve the nightly builds?

I believe the reason why the nightly builds won't play is because my opengl is 64-bit.  If so, there's not much I can do about it.  I'm trying to track down the latest fs2_open source code so that I can (presumably) compile a 64-bit version.

Okay, I managed to grab the 3.6.10 source code from svn and compile it successfully.  I played through the mission on this new build, and made it all the way through without having the game crash.
