I've been poking through Freespace mod repositories and I have yet to come across a heavy-assault fighter I really adored. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that everyone seems to like making interceptors.
Anyone have any released high-quality heavy assault fighters knocking around?

You want heavy assault? A big blocky Tank looking thing that's not too fast but can dish out unparralelled damage?
Freespacemods.net may have just what you need

I'm partial to the Ezechiel model myself as it's a pretty sweet model and there's a great HTL version.
I've used it in a role more akin to the Apollo's in the half-finished stuff I have, but I believe it's originally a heavy fighter.

Heavy Assault? Hmm.... Hamano's Herc3 is nice. Ezechiel is also nice. You could also try my Phoenix.

I personally like the Kelpie:

It's a pretty big fighter, so it'll work as a non-blocky heavy hitter.

Very nice, I'm going with the Ezechiel with a few modifications... I'm gonna give it six firing points instead of eight, and an increased secondary bank. It's gonna probably fly like an Ares lite, with less armor and missiles but the ability to... y'know... turn.
Many thanks, folks!

but theres so many... take your time...

I just saw this and I dunno if you know I was re-texturing this not too long ago.
Here is the thread:

There are several things you need to fix on the model (read the thread and you will see. )
Also, if you need some textures, let me know as I got my layered template for the current configuration and could pop out a few.
I'm gonna release another 3 or 4 textures for this pretty soon anyway. :)
The 6 gun configuration sounds good to me and oh, you may want to download the version I have as I fixed the glow, gun and missile points.
Good luck :)

i would also agree with previous posts about the ezechiel
you might want to use one of the inferno ships
I think TrashMan's phoenix or falcon might suit your needs

I looked at those two. Definitely cool ships, but they don't fit with the visual/color language of the other craft I'm using. The Ezechiel looks good coming out of a Titan or Sparta, as it has the same general aesthetic. The two TrashMan fighters are incredibly awesome, and I do regret that they clash with the other ships I'm using.
I might use them for something, someday. Who knows.

Another fighter you will like if you like the ezechiel is the vampire, although it probably isnt quite as heavy as what you're looking for
I believe both were made by Nico

just get the photoshop or gimp DDS plugin, use the 'color' brush mode, select a color, and off you go!

Unfortunately, I don't think it's ever been finished yet.
