Why can't they just switch to smaller local banks for loans?

Or because most of the small local banks got bought up by the big national banks.

Well for instance, here in Colorado we have a local bank called 1stbank that is doing quite well. You'd think that all the companies who get their capital from Chase, ect would be transferring.

No.  Smaller banks get much of their loans from larger banks.  Therefor, no smaller banks.
