Title: Problem starting the game
Post by: cspOneal on December 12, 2008, 04:15:34 am
Hi Im new here, im from Spain so sorry if my english is not good, I have a problem with Fs2, ive already installed twice the game and dont know what is the problem
it says something about the web cursor but I dont know what is, can anyone help me? Thanks
This is what it says when I try to start the game and collapses:

Error:
Web cursor bitmap not found. This is most likely due to one of three reasons:
         1)You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
         2)You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation;
         3)You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all.
Number 1 can be fixed by simply moving the FreeSpace Open executable file to the FreeSpace 2 folder. Numbers 2 and 3 can be fixed by installing or reinstalling
FreeSpace 2. If neither of these solutions fixes your problem, you've found a bug and should report it.

As the error and this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56279.0.html) say:

1) Your FSO executables and the Launcher are not in your FreeSpace2 folder.
2) Your FS2 installation is broken.
3) You haven't installed FS2.

If you used Turey's Installer, it does not install FS2. You'll need to buy FS2 from Good Old Gsmes.

Turey's installer is the Open Installer?

Turey's FreeSpace_Open Installer.

It never was. It's just that some time ago there was no reasonable way to buy FreeSpace2, so Turey included it in the Installer. Now, Good Old Games is legally selling the game, at a quite consumer-friendly price ($5.99). That's why retail FS2 is not in the Installer anymore and people without the game are directed to GOG.
