In my quest to expand on my Texturing knowledge and know how, I went and redid the Ravana. My Goal was to try and maintain the "Shivan look" while doing something different. The tiles used I created and yes this Ravana also have normals applied to about 90% of the ship. Also I have some glows and shine textures applied. Currently, I'm quite happy with the end result and having said that, I do know everyone has their own opinion about things. So opinion away and if you have any suggestions, by all means, post them too.
So without much adieu, Here it is:

that's pretty nifty. looks like what would happen if Replicators decided to pretend to be Shivans.
-
Although I like the current Ravana, this still gets a

I see that, I think 'Snaaaake, ssssnakeee'. Its a nice retexture, but it just looks a bit too scaly for me.

Thanks for the replies fellas :) Maybe you might prefer this version? ;)

I like the second version better. Perhaps change the gray of the "armor carapace" plates to a different shad then the "exposed" parts? right now it seems a bit monotone IMHO.
-
...I'm totally having you texture the Vetala like that.
-
First one is good, second one is better :P Still, some more variation would be nice. It's a bit monotone indeed.
-
I can't say anything nice, so I'm not gonna say anything at all. :blah:
-
personally I like the first version bettter.
-
I like the original better.
This just seems...weird. (except the girder part - that part is nice).
Not really liking the honeycomb/scales nor the supertile4 (I think its that).
If you made it look more like the 3.6.10 SC Lilith (3.6.10 betas SC Cain), I'd probably like it more :P A lot more.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)
This is exactly what I wanted to hear! Both good and not good opinions as it helps me see things in a different light. Like everyone, I have a difference of opinion and different perception about how something should or should not look like and I wanted to do these as something different regardless what is cannon and not. If it pisses off some, it was not my intention to do so but as an exercise in creativity and exploring different textures just because I can. ;7
I'll continue to play around with these, but not for awhile as I got other projects to complete. If you still want to give your opinions please do so! :)
Again thanks for the replies! :)

For me it looks like a giant-sized crocodile :D
-
I dunno, it doesn't look believably realistic.

hi,
mhh the texturing idea isnt bad, but its too much, i think it would look better if you mix it with another texturestructures and maybe some overlays so that it didnt look so strong.
but keep going :).
@asyikarea51: rofl, nice one!

I vote for the second one. But, like people have said. A tad monotone.
-
It, to me, looks like you used some random filters and hashed it together. There doesn't seem to really be anything but Adobe Photoshop Filter use. I know that the Stained Glass textureizer is cool, but it's monotnous by itself. If you are going to use filters to make it, try at least making it with some variance. in size. It's uniform, and make it look like a giant soccer ball print.
-
It's textures are certainly less redundant than that of a sathanas guys >_> The only thing about it that really bugs me is the use of no light grey at all and the use of that mosiac esque red texture on the blade things sticking out of the top.
-
None of these textures have been done on Photoshop as I use Paintshop Pro. Two of the textures are from the Sathanas that I changed somewhat, but nothing drastic. The others I created on my own using various different objects and the texture function in the effects list to create the final image.
