I don't know how I should feel about those protests.

Therefore I shall ignore them.

I was only referring to the quality of the pictures

EDIT: In number 24 you can almost see a shot from a beam canon  ;7

Only one kid gets shot by police, and the entire country goes to hell?  The Greek masses would never swing it over here. :p

Is there any particular reason why live ammunition isn't used against the most violent rioters?  They seem to want to cause as much harm as possible, with no intent of preventing death.  I say call martial law and waste the mother****ers.  Darwin for all to see.

Damn Straight! What the hell is wrong with those euro dicksheads. I hear that riots started breaking out in other counties like in Spain over this one incident.

But...
I don't know how I should feel about those protests.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but perhaps an investigation into why there is rioting is in order? The child that was murdered was a catalyst, not the reason.

I prefer making uninformed blanket judgments without having done any research. :p

LA Riots?
Indeed, which is why I was being (mostly) tongue-in-cheek.  From my (admittedly limited) observer's perspective, it's seemed like this sort of thing has a somewhat greater propensity to occur in Europe than over here, though it can certainly take place wherever stupid people gather in large groups...which is, unfortunately, just about everywhere.

Urgh. Reminds me of the anti-Police riots we get here every now and then. At least in this case the police seem to be to blame for directly killing the 15-year old. In my neck of the woods, the police get blamed even when the guy kills himself.

People tend to blame whoevers in charge for their problems. I'm not sure if its a Western thing, or an American thing, or even a Coloradan thing, but it's what I've observed.

It's meant to happen when lots of people gather together, there's no guiding finger, nor preset goals, just free will expressed.
we all get worked out in the confortable company of the masses.. the smart thing to do is to stay out of it if you don't want to be part of something you can't handle.

PD: you are right, the quality of the pictures is great.. what did they used?? a high def camera mounted on a tripode?... I can find a shaking hand effect anywere.

Millions of people protested peacefully against the invasion of Iraq and they were ignored. When you're ignored long enough you get angry and desperate, you do things that are not normally in your nature.

Anyone who isn't fond of uninformed blanket judgements should read into this before jumping to conclusions, you'll find it's not so simple as kids attacking police.

True, but on the other hand it takes massive amounts of stupidity to create such unger to the masses and especially to children.
As for the pictures, i really wonder. Those gyus wo shot theme are at least very cool.

Anarchy - creating riots to demonstrate how well we work without rules.

Neoliberalism - creating individuals who believe that any reaction to it is anarchy.

Why give police guns and ammo if they're not allowed to use them?

They're allowed to use them. They're not allowed to kill or wound people without a damn good reason.

Apparently this spilled into the Greek population Saint Louis, and led some protesting and shenanigans on the Delmar Loop.  There was even the potential for stuff to be getting blown up but police managed to quell it before anything could happen.

There's been some unrest in Sweden as well recently. I wonder if the pebbles can still cast their vote... :blah:

Dang HT, I was just about to ask:

When did the Galatea get on station?

OK let me rephrase... Why give the police guns if they aren't allowed to kill or wound people without a "damn good reason"?

Also, define "a damn good reason".
Title: Re: So beautiful pictures ...
Post by: peterv on December 23, 2008, 02:27:58 pm
In this particular case, the "damn good reason" was that the police officer thought that the kid he shot belonged to a group that insulted him earlier.
As for your first question i asume you are joking and in the same spirit i would ask from you the definition of the police.

The last time I checked the Galatea didn't last long enough to ever get fitted with ultra laz0r beam weapondry.

It's not the Galatea, it's the Repulse, if it's coming from the protester's side.

Repulse works.  So it's the NTD Repulse then.  Or that crazy destroyer from Derelict or whatever.

Saving an innocent's life by shooting a dangerous and armed person...that's a damn good reason.

I found 17, 33 to be hilarious, despite the situation in which they were taken.

The photographer is damn good.

They can torch and smash shops and cars all they want, they get my support there. Tension's gotta work its way out, its the govt's own fault for letting it get to this point.

But 11 and 13 just went too far. I don't know why, but the smashed potted plants on the floor, simply left to die, and the decorated burning Christmas tree really affected me. By all means they can assassinate the whole ****ing parliament but harming such beautiful sweet and innocent life is completely crossing the line.

This disturbed me even more than the recent video from the Ukraine that surfaced on 4chan.

Wait, murdering supposedly 'bad' people isn't as bad as breaking some plants?

I know its strange, but that's exactly how the pictures and their accompanying descriptions made me feel, and I felt that very strongly. Perhaps that was an intent of the photographer?
