What will I remember from 2008?

Its the year I finally got promoted (twice), bought a car, took a trip overseas, and accepted some of the stupid things in life.

Its the year where the Canadian government dropped to new levels of stupid, the year that Bush got a shoe thrown at him, the year that Bush is finally out of office and someone good is in office in that country to the south of me.

Its the year that went past largely as I had predicted it...except for the economy falling out and the oil prices dropping like a rock.  I was expecting that a bit later.  But here we are and thats how it is.  So long 2008...your been a slightly better than average year for me. I'm hoping for more from 2009.

for me it's that and the year i avoided any major sports injuries - and for me that's an accomplishment and a half

other than that - average.

oh yeah and that year of the mass stack panics that half the wold predicted

Most of my memories will come from school.  :)

Although I will remember getting broadband , and being in England for New Year 2008, and a few other things. Oh, also freaking out on The Giant Drop.

Obama being elected, and then us talking about him probably getting assassinated at school (do not start a discussion on this here), the economic crisis, Large Hadron Collider, and Sark abolishing Feudalism.

EDIT: Frak, forgot the Bejing Olympics!  :eek2:

It was the year the Phillies won the World Series, which brought myself and this entire region an immense amount of joy.

Unfortunately, it was also the year I was intending to earn my college degree, but didn't.

All in all, good riddance, and let's see what's next.

The year I was glad to see the back of! Honestly, I've had nothing but bad luck all year, the wife getting ill, quitting her job, setting up business, then getting another job and falling very ill. Not to mention the rows we've had this year, roll-on 2009!

The year I got a state of the art gaming rig.

The year I got the dreaded Vundo on the said rig.

The year in which I almost commited suicide.

The year in which I almost commited suicide again.

The year in which my vendetta against Karajorma began.

The year in which we got rid of that mother****er bush.

The year in which the said mother****er got a shoe thrown at him.

The year in which november - december have consisted of the following events, in order:

Learned a friend got cancer, my grandma got sick, my mom got sick, my mom got her thumb screwed up, the cake was burnt on my birthday, the turkey had feathers in it, I got a ****ing huge stye on my eye, I acquired the dreaded vundo and spent a day cleaning it out, my best friend broke up with his girlfriend, my grandma got sick again (and had to have surgery done).

The year I finally got a new PC (waiting for tomorrow)

The year Bush got what was coming.

The year in which I did pretty much nothing of consequence.

The year I entered high school.

Probably a bunch of other stuff happened, but I can't think of it right now.

If it makes you feel better, i'm as guilty as (I percieve) you to be. Such petty arguments should be kept off of HLP.

But enough of that, let's hear about your year

Can I get a brief explanation of this? There are plenty of rows on HLP, even with people as generally reasonable as Karajorma, but they rarely lead to vendettas. I've had big fights with Trashman, Akalabeth Angel, and Bob-san, but I don't have any hard feelings over them.

How could you have a grudge against Kara? Is it over the success of Diaspora? I can't see many other reasons, and since it sounds like you're depressed, you might consider just chalking it up to unreasoning emotion and trying to let it go.

For me, this will mostly be the year wherein my brief blossoming hope of a love life was crushed by a "just friends" speech. And also wherein I got a perfect score on my English final--booyeah, mother****ers.

This year is the year that I:

Watched over 100GB of anime in less than two months

Installed and completed NWN2 and KotoR I/II twice

Finished TimeShift in two days.

Learnt to make tiramisu.

Began writing my story.

Set my oven of fire

Help my sister overcome her fear of relationships.

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Hellstryker, I had a row with Karajorma a few years back myself. I said some things on sectorgame that came off as racist but hes a very reasonable guy and understands mistakes happen.  :)

It's been a good year. It was the year I passed the qualifying exam, got an advisor and started working on my thesis, the year I did most of the work on this (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=345426), the year I played numerous co-op PC games with some friends over the course of several months, and the year of hot internet deals with the ongoing MS/ebay cashback promotion being the highlight.

And the year I became a half-adult.

The year that I discovered that I hate high school without a single doubt.

The year that I decided that I'm going to transfer out of my current University.

The year that the Democratic party had the majority of their primaries rigged by the media.

The year that the stock market plummeted, with the ever-so-intelligent 30+ crowd sending it further down as they demanded their investments be changed from stocks to bonds or minerals. While in retrospect, the intelligent people pulled their money out around the housing crisis highs and will reinvest as the market pulls back up.

The year I finally got a music collection.

The year I got an iPod Nano.

The year I moved away from home.

&c

High school is defined here as grades 10-12. I am in grade 10.

Incidentally, high school here is 7-12.

IceFire...Grade 9 = 15 years old? I have to ask, because my country doesn't use the grading system. :nervous:

Yes Grade 9 would mean generally that you were 15 years old.

Oh, great. I've been using that on my old blogs for some time using only guesswork as a guide. :D

In Singapore, we don't use the grade system. Grades 1 to 6 is known as Primary 1 to 6, while Grades 7 to 11 is known as Secondary 1 to 5. As far as I know, there is no Grade 12, because beyond Grade 11 (10 for most) is either the Institute of Technical Education, a polytechnic or a junior college.

I completed Secondary 4 last year, so this year's my first in Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

2008 is a good year if you treat the financial crises as a series of small problems.

The year that mentally disabled guy won at Bejing.

The year that I got to the final level for Red Cross Swimming.

The year I got a Wii (well, last Christmas, but we didn't set it up until after New Years)

The year I started riding on the Special Needs minibus. (i figure its the lesser of two evils, ride for 30 minutes with a bunch of kids that, in all honesty, look like 4 year olds, so they're cute. Then have a nice 20 minute ride to my house after that. The alternative is riding for 2 hours with 60 idiots who wear their pants at their knees and smoke weed in the back)

Hang on, I have more.
