Title: A small problem
Post by: kramari on December 24, 2008, 06:58:04 am
Hi all!

First of all I got to say that the campaign so far is great. I played only a few missions and I love it.

But I have one problem. In that mission where you see the Lucifer, or whatever the ship is, destroys a terran destroyer near Earth I get strange beam textures. You can see it in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK2u44vqqlU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK2u44vqqlU)
Any help with it is appreciated.

EDIT: Video is still not processed Working now

Oh I have the newest mediavps and the launcher and the exe file

Firstly....

:welcome:

Also there is a known bug for Shivan beams with the newest Mediavps, there is a fix but you'll have to check out the Mediavp release thread to see how it's done. Something about extracting the old Shivan beams from the 3.6.9 mediavps and placing them in a folder in the 3.6.10 Mediavp folder.

Hope that helps, I think this may be your problem but I can't check out the video to confirm as I cannot access Youtube at work.

Welcome once again.

There is a fix for this issue in the 3.6.10 MediaVPs release thread. Check it out.

Thanks for the info, still haven't tried it out though.
Now I have another problem. After I run away to dock with the Vishnans, the next mission where I fly for them just crashes my game. I get into the game I auto target Arjuna 1 and 2 seconds later game crashes.

If you've downloaded Blue Planet recently, there shouldn't be any need for this patch .vp. Though it shouldn't cause anything either.

Deleted the patch file and put it on 32 bit but it still crashes...
It was at 16 bit because I changed to OpenGL and was too lazy to put it at 32 bit after it crashed with Direct3D

EDIT: OK, I reverted back to the FS2 open exe file that came with the Turey installer and it works now...
It said that the -normal parameter is unknown or something. But it works...

You probably had the normal maps enabled when you switched your build. 3.6.9 doesn't feature this option so the Launcher naturally informs you of this error.

You could still try running the latest nightly build, with the normal maps off. Also, there is discussion about the menace of Ati cards in this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,58371.0.html). Might be related. Or not.

What do "normal maps" do anyway?
Title: Re: A small problem
Post by: General Battuta on December 27, 2008, 12:50:31 pm
Add a huge amount of detail to the surfaces of ships.

Specifically, they allow normally flat, 2D textures to be rendered as if they're 3D.

Most noticeably on Vasudan craft, especially the GVD Hatshepsut and the GVCv Sobek.

indeed.

They also forgot to mention that activating normal maps could result in a increase of lag, specially when facing cap ships.

Thanks for the Info.
I did try to look it up on the wiki, but apperently it's too new to already have an entry into the "Command Line Reference".

And I was thinking the "over" bump mapped Sobek was out of some build I didn't have :)
