I have converted a number of ships to cob files using Kazan's POF Constructor Suite and have successfully loaded them into truespace. For some strange reason I can only have one type of model render textured at once. If I put a ship into the scene it renders fine. If I copy the ship all of the copys render fine. If I add another type of ship that ship renders fine but all the previous ones just come out black. Is this a known problem?

Sort of, but I'm not sure why. Try reapplying the textures and re-saving the model - that works for me (NB: I use my own models converted from obj to cob with 3d Exploration, but I get the problem you describe)

Sorry cant help youwith your problem, Aldo's suggestion should work  but anyway

Yeah I just found that solution but reapplying textures to a cap could be time consuming :(

Does TS complain about missing textures when loading the models? Because I can render converted FS2 ships just fine.

It does complain but the missing textures are missing cos they are for the parts I don't want so I didn't extract them (e.g. debris). As I said before the models render fine indevidually but if I add other items to the scene (or even change the background) the textures all turn black. Repainting the object DOES fix this permenantly but I am not looking forwards to repainting a Deimos face by face.

Just use the replace texture tool.... if you click with the 'pick' on the ship, it does show the right texture name, but not the actual map in the materials window (presumably because it can;t find it).
