Ok I'm trying to trick out one of the SL carriers,..the Bermen. I'm attempting to had a pair of beam turrets,..non-rotating, going over every walk-thru I can dig up,..now FS2 crashes whenever it selects the POF file (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
I tested the ship before attempting the turrets and it was working fine.
Anyone online at the moment willing to give a hand?

what exactly did you do

Bobboau, bringing you products that work.............. in theory

attached turret models to lights as siblings..glued to hull as child (even tried as sibs too)
set up FSMM data as per your walk throu
set up tbl data.
So far my BEST was I hit commit and hear 5 seconds of "space" sound b4 POOF desktop

pretty bad thou...3 hours for 2 guns
too bad I can slap normal fighter like gunpoints on it and make them as beams

If anyone wants to give this baby a go here's the zip with the 3ds model I began with and her textures.

What I'm trying to do is add a pair of beam cannons inside the hangers, right on the back wall facing straight out of them,..so with the right scaled beam it'll make them into massive cannons.

Maybe it's something to do with the models then, cause I can't get the Victorious to work either (tho I've nearly finished the texturing on the turrets, so I can send u the 3ds file to convert to cob, and try that...)
I'll be annoyed if it is the models, cause they are really classy I reckon.

Well if it's is the SL models for some reason,..either :
A. We'll get one of the big boys to peek at them.
or
B. We set up the SL carriers as just that, carriers. Depending on escort ships for defense.

You know what... I think I have figured out the problem. It's the amount of poly's... only 800 per sub-obj. With turrets, we must be pushing at the boundaries, making it crash...

Well a cap ship can go higher,..I've had nearly a 2k poly ship work before, as long as you don't use ALOT of them at once.
To be honest I'm not sure what the problem is. I'll see if I can get one of the local "turret/modeling" gods to peek at it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
