Hi,
I recently installed FSO on top of my gog.com purchased FS2. It works great, looks great etc ... but I have a few questions :
1 I don't seem to get any cutscenes. Now as I understand it FSO needs the original cutscenes converted to .ogg > where can I get those converted scenes ? cutscenes aren't mentioned at all in the FSO install FAQ
2 For a newbie such as me, FSO can seem a bit confusing : I downloaded the latest loader, nightly build, and the big mv_complete.vp > do I now have all the upgrades for the 'official' FS2 campaign ? or do I for example still need to get the 'cleaned up music' referred in another thread or some other things like highpoly models ?
thanks for responding !
ps : the install faq talks about having the cutscenes pack ... where can one find this, or why isn't it included in the 'complete' vp ? it's a bit confusing ! : )

Let's see.
1) The GOG package should contain the cutscenes. And I assume they're in .mve format.
2) The FSO engine can play .mve and .ogg cutscenes, but not .avi. Also, you must have OpenGL selected from the Launcher's Video tab (though 3.6.10 builds select OpenGL forcefully regardless of the Launcher).
3) mv_complete.vp doesn't contain the high quality music tracks. They can be downloaded from the 3.6.10 MediaVPs release thread on The FreeSpace Upgrade Project board.
4) I trust you have placed the mv_complete.vp file in \freespace2\mediavps\. That's good, but it won't upgrade your graphics as such. The final step is to open the Launcher, open the MOD tab and select the \freespace2\mediavps\ folder as your active mdo folder.
5) The cutscenes are available at FreeSpaceMods.net. They're not in a "pack", but will work when placed to \freespace2\data\movies. If you want to download them, I recommend the .ogg versions since the difference in terms of quality compared to the .mve ones is barely noticeable, but the .ogg ones take up conciderably less disk space.

Aha, thanks a lot for your response !
I did end up finding a pack : FS2OGGcutscenepack.vp
Installed it into data\movies (this folder didn't exist in my fs2 install folder), and cutscenes are showing up!
I already had activated the mod and used the extra launch parameter as instructed in the install guide
Also, thanks for the link to the cleaned up music, I'll be dl'ing this !
thanks !

The cutscene .vp should actually be placed directly to \freespace2\. But if it works that way...

Yeah, apparently there a few valid locations where you can put it ...
