Title: 2009: Expectations for the new year?
Post by: IceFire on December 26, 2008, 09:25:14 pm
So...we've got a 2008 thread but thats all just in the past.  Lets hear about what people are expecting from 2009!

Personally I'm hoping to make some decisions regarding going back to school or not and what future plans are.  I'm attending a minimum of one wedding this coming summer (last summer was 2) but there is still time and I have a few friends I'm expecting to get together sometime soonish.  I bought my car so now its onto finding my own place but thats contingent on financial and educational plans.  Who knows...maybe there is some small hope for "finding the right one" but thats always a tricky proposition of course.

Hoping of course that the economy pulls out of the flat spin its in right now, kicks hard rudder, reduces throttle...and levels out somewhere.

Other folks thoughts?

For 2009, I hope to get to meet many of you in person, as we work on making this HLP USA to become a reality :)

On the side agenda, hope to take the Bondurant high performance driving class, travel more, perhaps work at increasing my knowledge of my secular field, furthering my schooling, etc. :)

Well, it's my last year at high school, so I'll be thinking about University, and working hard. I'll probably also try to buy and download Galactic Civilizations II early on in January.

I'm hoping to learn driving this year,

Maybe that, too, but personally I don't like the thought of me behind the wheel of a car.  I'm probably just paranoid.

Correction: Australian bandwith everywhere but Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria (AFAIK) =

I've had no problems so far with my broadband, over here in the east.

We get 10GB/20GB (from 2am to 12noon) at 24MBps (more like 15MBps) which is pretty good by Aussie standards. We get reset tonight, so will be able to get ST:R tomorrow!

Sorry, I assumed you had a bad connection or dropouts, or something. My apologies, since yours is much better than mine.  :D

I'm hoping that I can continue a good relationship with this girl - even though we're gonna be 60 miles apart with no car.

Hopefully I'll be able to transfere to a slightly better college

Maybe I'll be able to upgrade my job

Transfer to a much better college. I'm looking at Columbia, NYU, or Iona in NY or Penn or PennState in PA. I'd like to get a job and a car in 2009.

I'm going to work hard and maintain my position in the A class at my school and perhaps find a school-holidays job.
Also, I'm going to get the MT project back into full flow and finish FREDding at least half of the missions by the end of next year.

I'd be content with just finding a grain of motivation to do something beyond sitting on my ass and putzing around on the Internet. :p

The three things I am most hopeful of for 2009:
1 - The cabinet for the Israeli government would face charges of crimes against humanity.
- All senior IDF/ISF will get a bullet through their brain in a public execution.
- Under international court, the Israeli occupancy will have been dissolved, and Israel as a country no longer recognized.
- World celebration ensues, wars are reduced by 83%.

2 - I get three A/S in computer science just before the end of '09 (almost there w00t!)

3 - Economy will begin to recover.  Home values will stabilize.

What 2009 will more likely be:
1 -  Israel starts its own 'cleansing' campaign, riots break out worldwide.  Global nuclear war may occur

2 - The school I attend will cut half of its classes due to the financial armageddon expected to hit California in Q2 '09, A/Ss delayed another year.

3 - Home values continue to fall after the backlash of bad loans hits a second time.

I knew I forgot something. Again.

In 2009, I want to continue, and hopefully complete, writing up my little personal project.

I'm also secretly holding out hope that either StarCraft 2, Diablo III, or Storm of War: Battle of Britain are released sometime this year :)

::Play epic doomsday music::

2009: All the people that contributed for FS 1 and 2 will form a new company "InterLight", and any who ever freded, modded, or wrote a story about Freespace that is willing will be hired to create the greatest game in the history of ever..... Freespace 3

They will announce a release date of late 2012. It will have extremely high security around all aspects of the development, and a budget over a billion Pounds.
By the end of 2010 there will be trailers, and "leaked" information allover the internet, InterLight will announce that it will be the last game in the freespace saga, and it will answer all the questions left open by the other games.  At some point it becomes clear that it will be one of the greatest games ever made, with multiple and distinct learning AIs, a totally immersing universe, and hundreds of hours of addictive game play.

some time in mid 2011 InterLight will announce that 4,000 people to pre-order will be picked at random to become beta testers in early 2012. They will be the first outside IL to play the game.

The day of the beta 2 hours after midnight GMT, the first reaction to the game is posted, just one word, "awesome". Less than a hour after that, the world ends.

 :(

I expect 2009 to be an even more crappy year then 2008 as far as the general downhill roll of everithing.

However i do expect the Hard-Light comunity to become a bit more recognized as the place to  be if you ever played FS .

Also i expect this year to be rather full of new sweet looking mod's for us plain old users!

That's it.

Same here, but I am quite sure I am not ready for the girlfriend part.
