After collecting dust for three months, lots of learning, and a name change, and uploading it to the wrong place, I'm proud to finally announce: the Notus!
http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.451
The following was copied and pasted out of the shp.tbm:
"The Notus is a fast assault fighter best suited for raids on convoys and small cruisers. With ten primaries and the capability of carrying the powerful Cyclops warhead, the Notus can inflict heavy damage in a very short amount of time. Not designed for extended engagements, however, the Notus' power plant cannot keep up with the energy demands of a dogfight. When confronted with enemy fighters, a Notus pilot's best course of action would be a head-to-head pass followed by a hasty retreat. Not many ships can keep up to a Notus."

Strange, not freespacy at all but very very very interesting
-
Isn't this just your "A new Hercules" model, with even better stats?
-
I read the title of this thread as "Release Notes" ... It looks more and sounds more like an assault bomber.
-
It looks like an onion. Is it supposed to be Vasudan?

Nope. Texture has changed, and so has the name. As for the species, I'll admit I have no idea. It started out as a Hercules mkIIb, sort of a speculation as to what changes a group of isolated terrans would have made to the Hercules. It started off inspired by skulls, and from there took on a life of its own. Unfortunately, the name Hercules didn't seem to jive with folks, so I changed it. Now it's an odd onion looking fighter named Notus.
I am curious about the normal maps, though. Did they work? I can't test them on my computer so I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

Isn't there a Notus in Inferno?
Also, can we get a screenshot of the ship with a texture?
-
Just checked. That's the texture shown in-game. I like it a lot. :)

Um...what? There's no detail, no hull plating, no access ports or cockpit or anything. Just a kind of biological shell.

So? :wtf: It's simple, it's creative, and it works.

Does it? It'd look pretty ugly in-game, especially when contrasted with the HTL models in the MediaVPs.
It might fit as a very alien vessel in a low-effort modpack, but it's not a convincing Terran fighter.
I'm not trying to deprecate the efforts of the modeler/texturer, but I do want to point out that it's a step forward, not a final step.
You might consider talking to a more experienced modeler and a texturer and asking them for pointers. See what you can do to push your skills even further.

Well, he said it isn't (probably) Terran, but I see your point. Of course, as long as I like it, I'm okay.
I like it because it looks simple yet different. Something unthinkable.
EDIT: He did say that the species is unknown.

Is it possible to have an alternate name?
(and something that resembles a prefix, too...)

My sincere thanks for the vote of support, SypheDMar.
As for General Battuta's suggestion that I look to more experienced modellers for pointers: I think that's a great suggestion. A good critique of a piece of work would never be amiss, and I didn't start this discussion hoping I would get nothing but praise. I'm sure no one ever got better at modelling without some criticism, and I am just starting out. So please, if anyone has any input on how my work could be improved, don't hesitate to express your thoughts on the matter.

I think you could've stuck with it as being a new Herc design, all it would need is a couple of trademark features (Bottom spike) and a canopy, it would make a good Mk. III, or perhaps a Mk. I.B.
