I'm trying to make a gunship out of the Satis, so I retextured it, and chaned the pof file, so it doesn't even refrence the satis model or skins anywhere at all. However, when I select it, the little pic in the bottom left hand corner of the HUD has satis textures. Any idea how to change this, or even why it's still referencing the Satis textures?
-
I think the HUD view is another LOD... And that other LOD is still referencing to the old Satis texes...
I'm not too sure on that one, but check it out, and you may be pleasantly surprised. :)

I think the problem is that fs still uses the shield icon of the satis, you have to make a new shieldicon for the new ship and fill the name in in the ships table at the shieldicon.

I checked on that - according to modelview though, all lods use the same texture set...is this true, or a bug in the program? I made 3 sets of textures but only used one, and the ship appears grey-white (the correct colour) from all distances, so I'm not too sure what's doing it.
Any other ideas?

check the tables maybe? could it be that hud animations are done according to some reference in the tables? they could still be refering to the old Satis model for the hud...
-
Nah, they were the first thing I checked. No references whatsoever. :(

what part are you talking about in the HUD? the target window where you see the model that spins and all, or the top view with the target shield?

The spinning one. It's textures are original Satis ones, instead of new Thor ones.

Check all of the LODs in Modelview or something and make sure that all references to the old textures have been completely removed. If that does not help, the only thing I can think of is that you somehow might have gotten the "$POF target file" tag in your ship's table entry, which would cause the things you are speaking of.

the target viewport shows the LOD1 of the model, which uses other maps. You have to make a different set of maps for each lod (on V models at least). To see what maps the LOD1 use, select the lod1, and open the pof editor in modelview, then select edit textures.

Disclaimer: No claim, explicit or implied, is proffered that I really know what I am talking about.
When I was doing the interface art and table entries for the GVF Reshef that Aldo modelled, I also gave the ship its final name, and had to rename the pof and all the maps accordingly. In PCS there were a large number of texture files referenced, and I had to reidentify all of these textures with their new names. Some of these textures listed in PCS did not seem to correspond to any extant files, but were included and necessary anyway. Perhaps those references are used for such purposes as this.
So anyway, the point of my rambling is this: Use PCS and make sure that all textures listed for your ship are referencing the new textures you have made.
-
yeah, you can use PCS, but with modelview, at least, you see what you're doing :)
-
Clear the Cache. that sould fix your problems.
-
Yep, it was a cache thing I think. Once I rebooted, modelview told me which textures were really being used for the different LODs, and it works quite nicely now. Thanks guys. :D

No prob. ;)
Hey BW, what part of Australia you live in? I'm an Aussie too. :)

I'm from Western Australia, a smallish country town called Northam, about 120kms east of Perth. Where're you? Sydney?
