Title: Small GTVA carriers?
Post by: ReeNoiP on January 02, 2009, 07:18:57 am
I am planning a small campaign and would like to use a ship with carrier capability, but a smaller than a destroyer. Can I maybe use corvettes?

in some campaigns corvettes carry a fighter compliment, but I doubt the amount of fighters that corvettes can carry exceeds one complete wing.

if the corvette has a fighterbay, it can carry infinite wings, you can try looking for a small carrier, I've seen some models around here which look quite good.

Axem had made some crates with figter carrying capacity.

peterv's Hestia carrier is just what you're looking for! (table may need a bit of fixing first though)

Some people reported that the turrets didn't fire. I didn't encounter this problem myself, but I may be mistaken. It's probably a bug in either the model or the table... Post I you have any problems.

That ship looks like a battlestar's engines + a cargo crate + a little like the argo or poseidon + deimos textures.

Hmmm,  I thought it looked like a Deimos with a crates straped to the sides.

It looks like a Deimos-esque cargo ship...modified to be a carrier to me.

There is, in fact, an actual Demios with an Argo repurposed as a fighterbay attached to the side floating around out there somewhere.

It looks like a bottle of brandy to me ........

Cool ship anyways i like it ! :D Love the beam emplacements even though they appear a bit useless if its attacked head on !

You can try my Lacer/Fury. It's a tad below 1000 meters. Dunno if that is too big for ya.

If you're referring to the circular disk things on the sides, then those aren't beam emplacements. They're docking ports.

There's also the two Carriers from TVWP (The Constellation and the Sagittarius) that you could use (the Constellation being cruiser-ish sized, and the Sagittarius being ~1km like TrashMan's Fury.

Damn could of sworn those were beam cannons heavy beam cannons not slashers docking ports

I must really be off on my FS thingy these days!

But i remember a mod that had some beam cannon skins that resembled those very very close. I can not however for the Love of God remember which one.

Also TrashMan's Fury is a rather sweet looking ship. With adequate beam firepower . However because it is basic a carrier it does suffer from limited beam cannons but i do remember it had some very good AAAF capabilaties 2 fighter bays speed and manouverabilaty were very good.

There is a campaign that makes full use of the said ship mod. Also the Deimos looking brandy bottle pocket carrier looks awesome too. But i do not believe it should be able to cary more then say 1 squadron of strike craft.

Uh, you kinda messed up that quote might want to fix. Just a little confusing.

The things on the Hestia are neither Direct-fire nor slashers. They're docking rings. like on the Argo.

And for the record, the Hestia's size is appropriate for carying 24 Ursa bombers.

That's ... quite scary. For something that looks so insignificant.

That was the idea of it. After playing the "Homesick" campaign i thought that a Deimos was not right for the role. A ship of that kind sould be mostly a civilian project, something like a freighter whith it's cargo space arranged for carying fighters.

I took an Aeolus and 3 Argos in FRED and stuck them together to look like a somewhat large cruiser with a fighterbay. If it were actually going to be made into a single model, it would be cleaned up a bit (closing some gaps, making the fighterbay cleaner / bigger, etc.)

I could see what it is, it's just... odd looking. It wouldn't have a very big fighter complement, I suppose. :)

It ... actually doesn't look that bad, imo. Although seeing as how all the turrets in the Aeolus are unable to fire now, kinda useless. :p

Well, its still got two of the "flak gun" mounts on one side, plus the argo's multipart blobs.

Post by: Stormkeeper on January 05, 2009, 07:21:23 pm
I guess you could always retool all the blobs ... cause they're kinda useless otherwise ..

Stick a Mjolnir on the front for good measure.

[NITPICK MODE ON]
4 fighterbays actually. And a hangarbay.

I made a Deimos with a conjoined Argo for somebody, forget who, a few years ago.
I'd be surprised if it's the one that's knocking about. It was (no doubt) full of nasty UV errors as it was my second project in TS.

Sorry about that TMan . I must say that is one of the most spot on design's ive seen of a dedicated carrier. And it even has a bite to it thanks to its beam cannons but not too much of a bite as to make it an uber ship. People should use it as reference more.

Also TMan what about some new skin's to make it look more intimidating ???? Just a wild idea i had !
