So way back in 2002, I bought Freespace2 off E-bay for some ridiculous price. Like 50 bucks, but it was worth it because it's my favorite game ever. However, about a year later, I lost the discs. A year or so after THAT, I had to reformat my drive, so I lost FS2. But then I found this awesome place a few years later! I cobbled together a working FSO install (this was before Turey's installer, getting the right files downloaded used to be pretty brutal) and then about 2 years ago Turey's installer hit the scene and I just deleted everything and used that to play the game. All was well.
So I've been gone from the forums for about a year or so now, and when I came back today I saw Good Ol' Games is the only legit source for the FS2 retail files. Which is great, they appear to be DRM free and reasonably priced, which is what we gamers have been asking for for years. My question is though, since my current FS2 retail files were downloaded from Turey's installer back before GoG appeared, should I go download it from GoG? I feel like I'm in some grey area where I've kinda stolen money out of Interplay and Gog's pockets, but maybe I'm just being a tool.

No you haven't You paid (overpaid acutally) for physical disks. You never spread it around so as one user its still moral.
I'm lawful Good, but damn you got it bad.

I think you're fine.

Well all right then. I didn't think it'd be horribly illegal or anything to not pay for it, I just need an occasional scumbag check.

It is indeed a bit troublesome. If you've paid for FS2 once, there is no point in paying again. But I'm hesitant to post any download links due to the policy here. Well, that's life for you. Sometimes you just end up as one of the underdogs.

By all rights, you're good to go.

He doesn't need any download links, fortunately; he got it off Turey's a while back. He's just having a crisis of conscience.
-
Ah, so it would seem. Read through it too fast and got the impression that he lost those files during a crisis. My mistake.

Better than what I did.
/me dons an eye-patch *
Argh, matey!
I kid, I kid. :P

You own the game. You just lost the disks. There's nothing wrong here.

Amen, you've given V their share, you're entitled to what you pay for

I just hope the bastard who ends up finding free FS2 discs appreciates the present he got :)
-
And the conscience conversation is precisely why my copy of FS and FS2 are on disks that stay in a fireproof box unless I need to reinstall FS
-
Huh. I never bought Freespace 2. I wonder what that makes me?

/me is tempted to click the "That's Me!" option on Windows Live SkyDrive.

Uninformed :P
-
And I "bought" FS2 twice back in the days (first the game itself then again in my JS package). What does that make me :nervous:
-
Me and my brother bought Tombi 2 twice because the first copy of the game got corrupted. I bought Ace Combat 2 twice for a similar reason.
I think buying a game twice make you a die-hard fan filled with nostalgia. :)

I see what you did there.

Or you could try swimming and getting swept away in a flood, if you're that brave.

This is still open why? ;)

Good question.
