Did you know the Ptah has more armor than the Serapis? Truly pathetic.......
-
Here's something I noticed.
Maxim damage: 20, armor factor 1.3 = 26
Kayser damage: 28, armor factor 1.0 = 28
Prometheus S damage: 30, armor factor 0.9 = 27
If I'm not mistaken, the Kayser does the most hull damage per shot of the three, and the Prometheus S does more damage per shot than the Maxim. :wtf:
I know the numbers are less than significant and the RoF of the Maxim just offsets that number entirely but I'm just saying...
-
Yeah, well, a shotgun would do more damage per shot than a mini-gun.

Wait, no it doesn't. They both have 220 hitpoints. The Ptah has more shielding, however, with 330, compared to the Serapis' 200.

What about at long range? :p
And would it do more damage than a...GAU-8/A Avenger 30mm GATLING CANNON? ;7
Silliness aside, isn't the Maxim meant to deal extreme hull damage per hit anyway considering it does close to no shield damage?
-
Well, an M109 Howitzer firing a W48 does more damage per shot than a minigun too.
-
Yes, but even if you factor in the rate-of-fire for the mini-gun, the Howitzer would do more damage.
If you did that with the mini-gun and shotgun, the mini-gun would do more damage. (Well, I'd assume so.)
Anyway, we don't want to stray too much off-topic. :nervous:

 It's supposed to be an anti-hull weapon, so it does damage primarily to hulls. But since it has a high ROF, each individual slug does moderate damage to hulls, and almost no damage to shields, like you said.
-
It's a nuclear howitzer, of course it would do more damage!

Maxim works best against bigger ships anyway, so damage/second is more important than damage/shot.

Don't forget about recoil, it's pretty hard to hit certain spacecraft in combat with that terrible(and yet cool) shudder.
-
The recoil does nothing to the accuracy, it just annoys you.
-
And doesn't annoying you affect your performance?

Yes. Yes it does.
-
Hey now, I *can* hit cruiser sized objects even when annoyed ;)

What about --Steve-O--'s Massdriver? ;7

Well, yes, that is correct when comparing damage per shot. But when you factor in refire rate, the maxim wins out easily.

That actually has an $FOF:, so the shots are actually spread somewhat.
-
The high rate of fire makes the FOF much less of a problem, IMO.

Yeah, you are right there.
-
I was wondering...
Would Kaysers be more deadly if they were mounted on a fighter with eight gunpoints, each spaced slightly behind the other?
-
If they were unlinked to have a RoF faster than the Maxim, they probably would.

...You would have to find a fighter that could support kaysers on 8 gunpoints and not turn around and refuse to crawl off the flight deck out of fear of energy consumption
-
Well considering a perfectly placed shot will instantly destroy a Basilisk or Mara, you could do it in the Erinyes fairly easily if had a tight shot group.
