Title: deleted topics, posts , etc (changed for lobo)
Post by: captain-custard on January 06, 2009, 08:00:27 am
would it be possible to get a pm from the mod / admin if they delete a topic/post ?

that way at least you would know why and could try to moderate how you behave or what you post

also i think that this would make mods admin think before they remove or censor something

this is not to winge or a post against any one in particular its just to discuss this in an open and co-herant way

Well, they seldom delete topics/posts. Threads are usually locked and they usually wander far, far off topic before that happens, so you generally have fair enough warning. Posts are almost never deleted.

Except on very very rare occasions, such as people posting Porn etc, Stormkeeper is correct, the only posts I've ever deleted have been Porn related, and I think I can only remember one members post being deleted in the last several years, and that was actually re-instated the next day.

I delete pointless double and triple posts, but not without copying the text to the previous post.

First of all, I lol at the title. Looks like someone deleted part of it(deleted topics, posts, [...])

Massive deletions are mentioned by Admins/Mods on the same thread. Goober did something like that when a thread of mine(in Diaspora) turned into an SSC, or Spam-Spree-Contest. There's no need to warn people, deleting posts works fine.

And well, High Max deleted most of his posts after his "bad experience" in the new MVPs thread. He had over 1,000 posts and now he's back to about 20. Have you ever noticed it? :nervous:

Indeed. What an unusual person.

You could still send them a pm :D

Dear so and so,

Your thread involving "Zack the Shivan and Kho'bani Shekmet Nabubu IV make a porno" while tastefully done, if such and word could be used to describe something so far outside human norms, falls within Hard Light Productions illegitimate content restrictions.  Alas your thread and video have been removed.  Please refer to these restrictions in subsection 24 of paragraph 3 of the BETAC treaty in the future and may God have mercy on your soul.

Cheers,

-HLP Admins

What was deleted anyway?

The one I remember was one that made some rather generalised comments about members of a certain Mod. I locked it, and then it seemed to vanish for 24 hours, and came back unlocked, but in truth, I might have just missed it on the thread list.

I have moderated a few threads like that -- I will remove the topic, prune out the span, and then restore the topic and unlock it.

Ahhh. that was probably what happened then :)

I delete spambots, and once deleted someone's triple posts (having copied the text into his first post) but I'd be very surprised if anyone here deleted a legitimately useful post. Surprised and very annoyed, as some of the IRC people would know.

I tend to agree. In fact I prefer to split out the spam and lock it to simply deleting it. That way those responsible can live with the shame of what they did. :p

Although I honestly doubt they'll lose any sleep over it ....

Given the existence of this thread. Maybe. :)

By the way, Mobius, you are right about the title. The title needs to be fixed into something like "deleted topics, posts, etc". You don't end it with a common :D
Comma.

i apologise my grammar is really bad i know , ive never really been that keen on gramar and "correct" usage of any language

so i have modified the post title

Lobo
you can now sleep without any worries , with the knowledge that the sentence has not ended with a comma

Hey, I didn't complain about the topic. I just corrected High Max on the fact that "," is a comma, not a common.

ok, i just scan read the quote and didnt really verify it.......

but im glad that the mods and admin talked a little about it , for me (and i am not trying to annoy ppl) sometimes you dont visit a thread for a week or so and it feels a little disjointed (replies to a post that no longer exists) and also i was looking for a clarification of what, if any protocol there was

and now i am informed

The FS halo thread got deleted from the archives. Although, I can understand why.

All the same, it's such a pity greenious went MIA. It would have been great to have a HALO TC. Perhaps one day this'll pick up again, as the buys at bungee are still interested.
