Title: Center point of ships
Post by: SF-Junky on January 06, 2009, 09:14:50 am
If you take the Colossus, for example, and place it in FRED, you will see that its center point, so the point where you turn the ship around its axes, it at the end of the ship. So it looks rather stupid in-game when this vessel turns around. Is there a way to move that center point into the middle of the ship, like it is in the tech room database?

I think it needs pof edition but I'm not expert in that.

as shiv said you would have to edit the .pof...
I don't know if that does it but in PSC2 you can alter the "Center of Mass" on .pof....

Wouldn't that be fixed with a new, improved model?

And yes, you can easily change that b editing the pof in PCS2 and even in ModelView, I think. :)

According to someone (Galemp I think), the reason the Colossus' CoM is so far back was to make the explosion take twice as long to propagate through it, and to make it pitch forward as it died.

No, I can't. I sucessfully changed the Center of Mass in the .pof but in FRED it is still at the back of the ship. Where are all those ship designers when you need one? ;)

Is it just the Colossus you want to have changed? or is another model (you don't need to say which one)?

For now it's just the Colossus.

I had that problem a while back with a model.

I tried to fix the CoM in PCS2, didn't work for some reason.
I had to convert it back to cob and fix it in Truespace.

So i'm curious why it didn't work in PCS2.

Okay, people, I will seriously not register with my full name and adress just to get the serial number for a freeware programm (truespace 3.2).

There any freeware (real freeware) to open and edit .cob files?

Lie like the rest of us, or get something free, and use the Collada exporter :P

Why not? I also did for 7.6 but it's useless to me (it seems).

Just make calligari a JUNK mailer and once you get their mail and register you never ever deal with them again,,,

CoM editing is best left to actual modelling programs.
