Title: Release: GTD Daegon
Post by: esarai on January 07, 2009, 07:03:59 pm
I posted pictures of this

in the Celebration of FreeSpace thread, and a lot of people were wanting it, so here it is. It has two effects that need to be placed in the effects directory. All tables are .tbms, so they shouldn't mess anything up. You know where the main model and the tables go.

Have fun.

Thank you!

Now we just have to wait for the Amaterasu... No hurry, though.

Hmm.  Looks somewhat like the GTDn Bastion.

Incidentally, were the United Space missions ever released?

*wonders if anyone will know what I'm talking about*

The model needs the maps changed to get the benefits of the 3.6.10 MediaVPs. :)

As far as I was given to understand, the mediavps is for the 'stock' ships, eg the standard GTVA horde, and doesn't apply to user-made ships.

Technically the ships themselves are made for the MediaVPs, if it wasn't for people remodeling the ships then they would be useless.

What is that brown ship in the background near Orion? Is it released?

As far as I know it should be compatible with 3.6.10 since I used retail textures that were upgraded with the mediavps. That might be different if all the mediavp filenames have changed, which would be weird.

There are no glowmaps included in this package since all the textures are retail. The only specials are the effects. I have no idea what would prevent the glowmaps from appearing.

That's the GTBCr Tennyson. I believe it has been released and is on FreeSpaceMods.

The 3.6.10 mediavp maps, unlike the 3.6.8 zeta or retail maps, have changed names. In the beta ones, the A letters at the end are removed from the filenames. So if you want it to look good and use mediavp maps, you edit the POF, but then it won't work without using the mediavps.

Or you can just extract the maps and rename them.

And btw, this ship looks great, so I'm gonna use it in my SOC mod.

Too much work for me, no thanks.
I don't even know how to do either one anyway.

I'll post an updated version.  I just realized I forgot to give it dock points... EEK!

That's why there was a discussion about using retail maps in this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,58230.0.html); It sort of wrecks compatibility if you use the maps in 3.6.10, unless your mod needs 3.6.10 to run. I suppose you could release the mod with the models using pure (I.E. with the A letters) retail maps, and have a separate VP with a set of models using 3.6.10 maps, though. (esarai, this is not necessarily for you, just general information :p)

I inquired about it once (here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,57734.msg1173327.html#msg1173327)) but I never got an answer.
Separating everything just makes running the mod that much more difficult than it already is. Look at FSportMVPs + STR...you need like...five -mod calls, in the right order, or it essentially breaks.

I spent a little bit of time and re-textured this using tiles I improved and have been using for al my major ships.

All textures have been replaced and that's my re-textured Whitehall installation called the GTI Zavaro in the backgroud which is the headquarters of the 21st Battle Group.  :D Notice the lighted runway ;)

Ack, I just asked about getting the Auriga textures for the Orion and the Daegon, but NOW I want THOSE textures you just posted.
Oh well...when given the option between two good choices, pick BOTH.

Wow, that retexture is really sharp. Nice.

Seems to be missing shine and normal maps, however.
Title: Re: Release: GTD Daegon
Post by: Jadehawk on January 08, 2009, 10:27:18 pm
Thanks all :)

The shine map is there just you cannot see the shine at this angle. I did in fact had a normal map for my tile textures and they did work to a point. While everything is fine for a couple of ships, having like 12 or more ships using these tiles with normals tends to get screwed up by the VP's as I believe they cannot handle all these normal tiles being used up to and beyond 100 times.

When I took the normals out for the tiles, everything works just fine in game as you can see in this shot. Lastly, the normals did not offer much of an improvement over what you see here anyway. The only way a normal would benefit these ships is by using a dedicated UV mapped texture.

I know what you're talking about. :D

To verify;

It looks really retro, like one of those ships made in the early days of FS2 modding. Just with a lot more polies. Melikes.

That said, United Space was the campaign with the 'parasite' ships, right? The fugly star shaped green things...? I don't think it was released but honestly I can't say I'm too interested in it.

I could release this with the given textures too. But I also was gonna release a big file that has a bunch of textures I created and/or modified.

That way, you all can mess around and create them to your taste. :)

Decent looking ship. Not really to my taste but can't be faulted for that. Not much anyway.

Yeah I remember united space Goober. That had the GTXDn Bastion or somesuch, right? Don't think there was ever a release.

Not so fond of the reskin of the destroyer, but I'd really like to get my hands on that Whitehall retexture.
