I like the cruiser design. It doesn't look like its developed from an existing design. So, well done.

They're all f*cking excellent.

The Shivan Destroyer looks too much like a panther near the front and is too bone-ish to be Shivan. Maybe some kind of elite SOC vessel? Or another branch of the GTI's shivan ship project.

I like the cruiser.

Not bad. Science vessel is excellent, cruiser's needing a lower engine for accuracy's sake...

Those are excellent. You wouldn't mind if someone else poked around at modelling them a bit would you? ;)

lets see if you can guess where does this ship come from...

well.. it's not a good picture, but anyway... :) I modelled this ship with my Lego ;) (yep, at an age of 22, I still play with those nice an shiny bricks...)

okok... this one is easy...
it would look really cool, within the FS2 engine... if I only where able to do some proper texturing...

but the one I prefer is the Badanov...

(http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/art/shots/large/14.jpg) that's a nice and fast ship :D

sorry for the big pictures... :)

A russian spaceship. LOL, man, that just made me laugh....

Dunno why. No offense to any russians, but looks like that thing is going to come down just like the Mir station.

Actually the Mir was up there for about 16 years, and though in the end they fixed the thing with ducktape and nails, it held.

Man, I'm still laughing.

nope, Giger wasn't involved in Aliens ( otherwise you wouldn't have any queen, just alien victims that turns into eggs, groovy :p ), and he had only a role as consultant in Alien3. Dunno for alien4, I think he wasn't involved at all either.

I don't like Starship Troopers either--Because it wasn't Starship Troopers. It was Robocop-meets-Aliens. On that level, its not bad. But calling it 'Starship Troopers' is an insult to the thoughtful examination of the morality and mind of the fighting soldier.

No, I don't like it because it became 'robocop-meets-aliens'. The director was so in love with movie-with-commercials thing, he carried it over from Robocop into Starship Troopers. Combine this with the rest of the movie being a not very good Aliens ripoff, and it kinda left me cold. While the graphics were excellent, the acting was strictly third rate. I can't bring myself to like a movie for graphics alone. Even Final Fantasy and Event Horizon had better acting (marginally) than Starship Troopers.

When I go to a movie I want decent acting (not great, I can deal with just decent), a story (again, decent, not necessarily great), and visuals. Starship Troopers failed on the first two.
Title: Concept Art..Image Heavy
Post by: Nico on March 24, 2002, 05:40:18 pm
huh, I saw nothing wrong in the acting personnaly.
bah, ST stays one of my favourite sci fi movies, if not my favourite one. It kicked asses, I liked the fact that the bad guys were not the first to attack, that the good guys were not that good, I like the fact that they didn't use cliché stuff like laser rifles, but good old ( and big, very big) macihne guns, I like the fact that the heroe was a perfect dumbass, the terran society an horrible fachist government, I liked the news stuff in robocop so it didn't bothered me to see that again, and, also, I just love Basil Poledouris musics :)
This time I won't go into any ranting thing, the movie sure has flaws, but giving the fact that Veroheven had to finish it with half the budget he initially was promised, I think it's a true piece of art.
Oh, and i just love Denise Richards, so :p

an0n's Reasons Why Starship Troopers Rawked:
The graphics
Denise Richards
Dizzy getting her nekkid groove on with Rico
The Gore
The grunts charging to their death

an0n's Reasons Why Starship Troopers Sucked Ass:
It was soooooo not Starship Troopers (the Roughneck Chronicles is Starship Troopers)
It was full of corporate whoreism
Not enough sex
Not enough violence
Not enough of Denise Richards gyrating
Not enough of Dizzy's groove

an0n's Reasons Why The Event Horizon Ownz j00:
It's ****ing huge
It's walls are painted with the bodies of the damned
It's engine is a black hole
It's engine is a gateway to hell
It mentally rapes everyone who sets foot onboard
It made Sam O'Neill into a psycho killer for an hour and a half

Starship Troopers.

The original book, has someone already said, is a good one. And it has little to do with the film.

and where do you think blizzard's guys got the inspiration? :D I just hate people who do speak about things they don't know... like not knowing that many Sci-Fi movies and games are actually taken from Classical Books.. like.. Blade Runner (Philip P. Dick: "Do androids dream of electric sheep.), Ubik (same author, same book name), and so on...

The government was not fascist (as you would know if the movie didn't suck donkey balls) and the main character was not a dumbass but an average guy (as you would know if the movie didn't suck donkey balls).

The visuals are stunning. No doubt about it. But visuals couldn't save Final Fantasy: TSW either. Making that movie on half the original budget was phenomenal but a bad movie made at half budget is still a bad movie. It was okay for what it was but it was not what it could have been.

Oh and Denise Richards? She'd be more attractive after being gutted by a Bug. She's nasty. Of course, that's just down to raw personal taste. We will DEFINATELY disagree on which women are attractive. ;)

huh, you know, I read the book too. I was talking that IN THE MOVIE, the gvt is a fascist one, the heroe is dumb. I don't care if it's not like in the book ( I would have if it was Lord of the Rings, but that's another story).
An if you think Denise Richards is ugly, well, i can't do anything for you :p Oh, yeah, I can introduce you to some vasudan female friends of mine :D
Nah, really, i just have the feeling that you (and Stryke9) just always say you don't like it when I talk about something :p
And Starship is not a bad movie, you just don't like it ( oh, and final fantasy wa a good movie too, and I don't care if it didn't work well -in the states- ).

Okay, Venom, I'm really tired of this. I like some of the things you do, I don't like others you do. Because my opinion differs from yours does not invalidate my opinion. Because your opinion differs from mine does not invalidate yours. My opinions are based on my likes and dislikes, not based YOUR likes and dislikes. If I don't like something, its because I DO NOT LIKE IT, not because you do like it. Is that clear? If not, I can get someone translate it into French to make sure the point was CLEAR AS CRYSTAL. Good? Good.

I don't like Denise Richards. She's not attractive, sorry. We'll differ on that. I like the sorts of people I like and you stick with the girls you like. It's okay for our opinions to differ. Honest. If you think it is not okay, I suggest you re-read my previous paragraph.

Finally, for the record, I didn't say that Final Fantasy was a bad movie. I thought it was excellent. It still lost money because people didn't like it very much. I am not one of those people. I though it was excellent. Of course, I like every Final Fantasy game to date, so I might just be a sheep.

oh! you're angry? :(
I never said you didn't have the right not to like etcetc, I just say that when you tell your opinion, you do it so it's like it can't be questionned, exemple, this very last post:
"she's not attractive, sorry".
bah, I'm fed up of that for long now, you know, but bah, I just can't stay w/o replying, that's how I am, sorry :p

Well she's NOT. ;) (and that IS an opinion. You can question it. You'd just be wrong. In my opinion. )

Whilst I might have been angry before, I am not now, and this is a joke. :D

he designed the original alien and the weird derelict on LV426.
He also did the designs for Species. He also worked on a few old games, and, I suppose, some other movies I don't know about.
Hey, he got an oscar for Alien :)
He was really disapointed not being asked to help for Aliens, and he had only little part in Alien3.
I have an awesome book from him about the making of Alien ( Giger's Alien is the name of the book ), you can see the evolution of all the "versions" of the alien, and original ideas from before he was hired (nfor exemple the alien was meant to be a kind of space dinosaur :p, and if they have had more money, the aliens would be translucid, you could have seen guts and acid running in the veins :) )
Also, you have clear shots of the alien, for exemple, you can see its eyes ( same place as hours actually, behind a transparent cranium :), looks freaky when you notice that -yup, predator 2 was all wrong :D- )

bah, actually, alien and predator universes have nothing to do with each other. There's just that little pun with the alien skull in predator2, I supposed it's the thing that triggered the whole AvP stuff ( first game on jaguar, ouch :p )

Nope. AvP was inspired by the Dark Horse comics Aliens vs Predator comics. I have the entire first series (autographed by the artists even!). Its not too bad. According to DarkHorse's version of the shared universe, Predators 'seed' xenomorphs on planets and then hunt them. This is the origin of the xenomorph cranium in Predator 2.

mmh, that's kindda not working with the Alien plot, in Alien, the xenomorphs were carried by another alien species, right, but they had nothing to do with predators :)
Bah, dark Horses comics about aliens are ****ed up anywa, i've seen them using aliens against batman and even james bond

What? You want them to work Predators into the Alien storyline? People just wanted something that showed one really cool alien species fight another really cool alien species. Since Dark Horse had the rights to both properties (Alien and Predator), they made AvP.

It doesn't have anything to do with either the Alien universe of the first Predator movie.

well, that's kindda sad actually, they could have worked something better, no?
I think that's what they did in the games at least (I think, I've never played them).
bah, anyway, in predator2, the skull isn't an alien one!!!! They messed it up, it should have the front of the skull just like a human skull ( and actually that's what they used to make the costume of the first movie, and really it looks both great and scary when you can see it right - only at the end of the movie, when the alien is behind Ripley in her space suit, just as she turns back and see it a few inches behind her, you can see the alien's face quite clear, and even his two, perfect black eyes - )

Depends on the xenomorph in question. If you read the comics, they come in almost infinite variety. Heck, in Alien3 you see that the the Xenomorphs take on some of the characteristics of the thigns in which they gestate. Imagine what a predator gestated Alien could do. Or one that gestated in a polar bear. :D

Or--and this one WAS done, IIRC--one that gestated in Superman. :p

well, they do take some lines of the host, but that dosn't improve their aptitude it seems: the Alien3 alien won't run faster than any other alien for exemple, it will just move differently.
An alien hosted by superman wouldn't fly or have eyes that can fire lasers i'm afraid :p
Oh, and what would an alien gain from being hosted by the predator? remove all the weapons from the predator, the alien is stronger, faster, more stealth and agile :) the predator only have superior brains, and, as you can see from aliens hosted by humans, this isn't carried over to the alien itself

If I remember correctly, the alien that gestated in Superman ended up being mostly invulnerable, super-strong and able to put the beatdown on Superman. ;) Gotta love comic books.

Aliens are very strong, very fast, very stealthy. Presumably take on memories from initial host as 'Aliens' aliens formed a loose society based around the queen whereas Resurrection aliens were highly intelligent yet bickered much like their initial hosts (podded scientists if memory serves). A Predator could easily track an Alien and has the weapons to dispatch it with ease, however the sheer number of aliens in comparison to Predator numbers means any group assault would massacre any Predators. Terminators (T-801's) would find it difficult to track Aliens due to their speed and stealth however in a one on one battle a T-801 would rip any alien to pieces, probably destroying itself in the process. Also Skynet search patterns would easily corner alien infestations allowing nuking of the infested area. Terminators are also immune to being taken as hosts and as such any engagement would have zero possibility of increasing hostile numbers through capture.

Basically it all boils down to numbers. Terminators and Aliens are on level pegging in both strength and numbers as well as tracking ability. Predators are far less in number but their weaponry brings them level with both T-801's and Aliens. However if a T-1000 were to surface it would most likely, single handedly take down the Aliens and Predators.

I didn't know that and I've got Aliens 1/3 and Predator on video! Are you sure thats not some loosely strung together excuse to get them in the same universe?

Oh and this is what a Predator should look like...

yes, we are sure IT IS a poor way of puting both species in the same universe. Prerdators sure don't seed planets with aliens just for fun ( apart in DH comics  ) If they're so smart, they'd know they wouldn't need to seed more than one planet for their weekly fun after coming back from the factory :p

It is indeed a simple way of putting them in the same universe. However, the reason they seed them on different planets is to fight the aliens that result from that planet's ecosystem. They fight pretty much anything.

Its a comic book based on two cheeseball action/thriller flicks. Don't read too much into it. ;)

morale in DH comics

"runs very far from everybody not to hurt anybody's hears, and bursts in very loud laughings"
