How to make a fighter or capship bigger or smaller?
Do I need a modelling program or is it possible via POF Constructor? Does rescaling cause any problems (like turrets and subsystems not auto-move to new position) ??
-
Depends.
If it is a ship from the game ( a .pof file ), then open it in PCS2, save it as .cob.
Go to preferences--> Cob scaling factor--> then enter a value that fit what you had in mind.
then load the previously saved cob, check the size of the model in the bottom right corner, you'll see there the actual size, if it's ok--> save as .pof, if not, adjust the cob scaling factor.
-
I tried this and I mannaged to change the size in POF constructor, but in FRED that ship is still in normal size :(
-
Where did you save the finished POF? It needs to be somewhere that FRED can find it.

Create a folder in your game folder, name it MYMOD.
in that folder create a folder, name it data, in data create a folder named models, place your saved .pof file there.
Rightclick on the FRED.exe, ad this line to properties:
-mod MYMOD
add the same line in the launcher--> Features tab --> Custom flags
-
the -mod flag isn't a problem.
I mannaged to save the .pof properly and put it to right place but now the FRED didn't read this model and use first available model instead (like Ulysses).

Whats your folder layout look like?

I think I came across something like this before, but unfortunately I can't remember how I solved it. :hopping:
I was trying to make a model with a rotating subsystem, just to see if I could do it, and also to learn how.
I think it had something to do with the tbl entry...
-
Unless he saved the .pof under a different name, he shouldn't have any probs, afaik.
-
The rescaled .pof's aren't read by FRED and when I try to open them in POF constructor it crash :(
-
Aren't there other VPs that are interfering? MediaVPs in the root, etc.
-
Nope. I guess that POF constructor might corrupt the file somewhere in .cob=> .pof conversion.
-
Hold your cursor over teh pof file, it it now says 0kb, congrats your pof is definately corrupted...
I resize depending on how maly I feel: PCS1, TS3.2 or 3dexploration...
I almost always save under a new name (xa, x1, xt-for test) ect... Becuase of that occasional problem.
I don't mess with scale factor IN pcs1 normally because I alternate too quickly betewwn FTRS and super cap ships.
I don't like changign settings every 5 mins.
Mr.Who: Are you the same person from HW2 modding (Specificly the TOS BSG team?)
:)
-
Yup, I had a few episodes with HW2 BSG and FS1/2 mods. Nothing too big or significant but I participated.
Anyway I'll try to deal with this resize problem in next week after my exam session. After that I hope that I'll be able to present an initial concept of my
campaign (I have more or less a complete list of ships, I just need to add proper weapons and stats and create some new weapons) :).
-
Heh Cool.
Mixing and matching the new particle animations with the media weapons effects might get you started.
If you got some time in the far future do you think you could help me out with converting some .hods?
U sed to be able to do it myself but that was 2 computers ago and lost that ability (tools fail to install properly) and I am tied of screwing up my OS.
I have permission from 4 mod teams but can't access the .BIGS primarily. I think I can acutally get around the .hod issue so I could atry soem thing but every .big tool I use says invalid big file.
No one really has time and I would understand if it would be inconvenient for you later on as well.
As for you "size" issue, if you continue to have problems I could try and "have a go at it". Upload a test pof/cob and the size you need it.
