This is an untextured model I recently started working on. It's about 700 metres long, and tentatively named Boreas.

Looks vaguely Vasudan. I like.
-
well it looks ancient to me.. good, keep going I¿d like to see the final result :D
-
Much, much weirder than anything we've ever seen in Freespace. If it has to be a spaceship at ALL I would make it an Ancients one.
-
So true! Looking great by the way. Now go on a create an entire fleet
-
Definitely Ancient ish.
-
Keep in mind, there is a Cruiser class named the Boreas already. :)
-
It looks like a cuttlefish, which is a definite plus.

Honestly I really think people should be able to name their ships whatever they want. Even if the name is already being used.
-
Nice - keep it up, bobbtmann
It looks very organic - but ancient? I don't know...

With a different texture job, it'd look nice as an ancient ship.

With such an amorphous shape, it would need a seamless UV map with textures blending into each other. I would recommend generating something procedurally with Voroni maps, then unwrapping it.

Its one of Zoidberg's ships :D
-
Heh, yeah, it looks ancient-ish.
-
For some reason, when I saw it I thought 'Owa' (read: Star Control 3). Maybe because I'm listening to the Daktaklakpak again. :nervous:
-
New species? Looks pretty much the opposite of the Tiigran-Merisst.
-
New species? ...
I guess it's a member of the same species as the Notus.

I gather that UV mapping would be the way to go then for this model? I had briefly considered doing a tiled, or a mixture of tiled and non tiled, but I suppose the larger, empty areas don't need the resolutuion of the detailed spots...

This is why I suggested procedural mapping--there's no other way to get seamless texture wrapping. Additionally there's no real distinction between parts of the model--if you texture mapped it, it would have to be all one texture. Hence, the blending.
-
Texturing; the seams are pretty strong, eh? ;)

AAAAAAH! MY EYES!!!!!!!! :P

Hurrrr...the colors...

You'd make Andy Warhol proud ;)

Hey, bobbtmann found the secret drug stash of mine LOL
The second pic looks like a cyclop smiling at ya. LOL

These are a bit more tame...

nice
-
Definitely a cuttlefish. :p
-
that fells just right for it!
are you making turrets for this corvette?

I am indeed making turrets. No multipart turrets, though.
-
a little late, but I instantly thought ancient when I saw it. it's the long spindely things off the back, just give it a blue/purple scale/panel texture and you'll be all set.
-
Yeehaa! I see giant hippo-zord! :D

Mid-term portfolios are coming up and the pile of work is getting a bit overwhelming, so this will be the last update for a while. Keep an eye out for updates next month.

The pun was bad but the model was coo'
-
The heck?
-
:nervous: Xindi from Star Trek: Enterprise...right?
Nice concept! Bob....something
-
its a fishy

You know, it's kind of hard to say something is "Ancient-ish" considering that there is only one canon Ancient's model in the entirety of canon FreeSpace. While it might be accurate to say that something resembles other fan-made Ancients' ships, the claim that this looks like it should belong to the Ancients really isn't as valid.
Nonetheless, I like the model, and it does bear some resemblance to other fan-made Ancients' ships.
-
How about "First Ones"ish? It's definetely bizarre enough ;)

I didn't think that there were any cannon Ancient ships. To which ship are you referring?
Aurora Paradox
-
Knossos ;)
@bobbtman: which end is the front?
-
The two spindly extensions at the back. The last image is a front view, with the "eye" being the socket for its one beam cannon.
-
Ok. Make it awesomer.
-
School's out! Here's an update:

maybe is just the lighting... but the hole on the upper-left side looks larger than the one on the right
i like the organic design of the ship. it would make for an interesting new race
-
Heh, why not something like the Leviathans, in Farscape? :)
Here's my version: :p
They're a migrating species, space-born, that fly from one star system to another. They enter some sort of hibernation, to survive the interstellar space and, when they approach a star, they 'wake up' and go into low orbit over a gas giant. They consume part of its top atmospheric layer, which they then compress inside them, in specialized organs. Then they use it as fuel, expelling it at high pressure, sort of like the siphon of an octopus.
They give birth to a high number of young, which the males protect by keeping them into 'fighterbays', sort of like sea horses or kangaroos. If the adults find themselves under attack, the young play the role of fighters. They grow by feeding off their male protector during interstellar flight; if it takes too long for the father to reach another star system, or if he is housing too many larvae, he will die.
They defend themselves with electric discharges, like electric ray fish. Those electric discharges can completely fry the electronic systems of any fighter and can cause serious damage to capital ship subsystems.
-
Pretty cool idea you have there
-
Yeah, well, to be honest, I had this idea in the back of my head for a long time now; in fact, I wanted to try and do some organic stuff myself.
But this is teh awesome! :D
-
Neat idea, Enioch. I'm not so sure about the compressed gas part, though. You wouldn't get far on compressed air. It would probably go further using the collected gas as fuel for some sort of chemical reaction.
I'd also like to point out the bridge windows on the front of the ship.
-
Those are... eyes?
-
Heheh....living ships.
-
Bah, living ships in Freespace. Ridiculous! ;)
Keep up the good work!
-
Where's the Talon?
-
That's pretty cool.
-
Is that FS ?
Which mod ?
-
Getter Robo's super space sci-fi mod is my guess... ;)
-
No the super-space-mod is tied to the fan fiction no one reads...
That was a one time convert for a joke (living ships)... And one of the few HW1 models I actually had permission for a while ago but never converted till now.
-
Needs more ducks.
-
Are you serious? (no really...are you?)
-
Read Getter's sig
(that's a no)
-
Lolkay. :p
-
Sorry, but unless your name is HOWARD, you don't get no ducks!
(They fricken have LAZOR EYES!!! :drevil:)

-
There you go Aardwolf...XD
-
There is something disturbing about that...
-
You mean how the beak of the duck blends awkwardly with the head?
Yeah, that's kinda creepy.
EDIT: Massive Derail :eek2:
-
Me thinks the ducks are awesome. I know that grammar is improper, but I did that for effect.
But I agree, we've definitely derailed this train thread.

Is a there a thread on HLP that doesn't get derailed sooner or later?
btw. Nice looking ship!

Great ship ya!
and yes. You can try the "What Happens in Your Life" threads. They can't get derailed form what I know. XD
-
Well, that's because they didn't really have rails to begin with, do they? :P
-
Actually it's pretty simple to derail the What Happens in Your Life thread, just talk about things that don't pretain to your life.
-

That's a fine looking ship. I like the texturing job on the damaged sections especially. Really gives it realism.
But I wonder, how is bobbtmann's corvette coming?
-
Actually, i meant the organic looking corvette. :P
The locomotive is nice too.. :D

At least we are getting somewhat on track. He said living, as we are posting LIVING ships.. :)
:D
-
Those are rubber duckies, they're not alive!
-
You want living?
Take a look at that.
I think it's a good idea of how living ships should look.
It has animated surface ,much like NF Larvae ,but not transparent.
I'm making entire brood of ships like that.
Concept is based on Teknoman (originally Tekkaman) anime (the fact that there was only one
Radam ship in anime doesn't mean they cannot have more).

:D
Actually, the Vorpal Bunny fighter really is a fighter. You can see it has thrusters (on it's ass) and missile ports (paws) and lazor emitter (eye lazors..you can't see those).
ON TOPIC:
It looks kinda...Vorlonish.
-
Here's an update on the texture. This thread seems to have gotten off topic: I've never said this ship was alive.

Sweet.
-
Is that arch-thing new or have you just not showed any views that revealed it?
-
The back on InProgressRender38 looks very familiar. :P
