I don't get people who are better with word problems than with just the equation.

Indeed. In some cases the words describing the problem aren't even making it any easier.

A triangular reversal cube parabola twirls 2.3 times around its own focus. Calculate the velocity of the formed, asymmetric object and estimate the look on your relatives' faces when you won't be graduating this year.
