Title: Conjecture: Procedural Generation in RTS.
Post by: Retsof on January 29, 2009, 08:14:26 pm
Just something to think about, having to do with creating ships and vehicles in an RTS.  I doubt it's really possible, but it would be cool anyway.
So say you want to create a custom ship.  You decide locations and facings for the turrets and systems, and perhaps put in a very basic shape.  The computer then uses a sort of style template that fits the faction you are playing as (if there are multiple styles you could pick one) and generates the ship.

Thoughts?

It's certainly doable... And probably has been done before, though I can't think of anything like it off the top of my head.

Well, I googled it, found lots of spore references and an indiegame procedural generation competition, but nothing like what I described above.  Well, mabey some designer will stumble onto this thread and think its a good idea.
