Ok so basically the name needs work, but you are traveling one direction, press a key setup
for that sole function, and you instantly do a full 180 turn and keep going.
I'd imagine this is used in several other games, but I picked it up from Ace Online/AirRivals/Space Cowboy/Flysis.
Think it's possible or would it require something as fancy as scripting to pull off?
Might add another tactic to dogfighting, as well as the speed mods for run & gun barrages.

As much as FreeSpace does have arcade elements... Combos are not one of them and hopefully never will.
It's not difficult to turn your ship 180 degrees manually. It would make sense if there were g-forces to worry about (for example German WW2 dive bombers had dive brakes and an autopilot that automatically pulled the bomber out of the dive after bomb release since the forces required to pull out of the dive were bigger than the pilots coult reliably handle) but we don't so in my opinion there's zero reason to have such stuff added.
Technically, I suppose it could be done with autopilot but I don't know if that itself requires scripting...
On the other hand, I suppose Shadows of Lylat team has a justification to add at least one "combo" purely for historical reasons. One that is enabled by pressing Z or R twice...

Barrel roll... Not always the best choice.

*slaps own face*
Has any of the topics I've started ever been concerned with the canon of FS2?
I'm interested in mod uses, new territory that's uncharted.
Like I've said many times before, I do not care if it's physically possible to our minds
under conditions we know of today... I can make an excuse for it to be there.

Honestly, the SCP guys have more important things to do than implement a control that allows you to do a flip.
-
Its not a flip!! Its a space-time discontinuity effect!
-
Would you keep moving in the direction you were originally traveling like with glide, or are you wanting an instant velocity change (which is another matter entirely)?
-
I think he is talking about some kind of portal flip or mirror type thing
-
No, he's talking about the 180 degree spins like what you could do on all the old FPS games like Duke Nukem 3D, hit key, *wham,* I'm facing my six.
-
Mmm... portals... now there's a different and totally worthwhile thought.
Shouldn't it be possible to change position and velocity vectors via scripting already...? :nervous: Hit the surface of the Monolith and you end up coming out of another monolith... unless it's full of stars.

Portal...
In space.

That is what I'm after....

That gave me an idea...
Aperture Science Ship Mounted Portal Device. :P

A tutorial on the glide feature would be usefull here.
-
I'm not talking about Glide though... Glide is something else entirely.
-
I'll have to try this combo:
glide on+flip 180+glide off+burners and see what happens.
Might be pretty similar to an instant U-Turn.

Since AirRivals was mentioned here...and I saw something on it that made me laugh my head off...

I think I remember seeing something like that in the FS credits.

After my three bomber wings disarm and disable this Colossus (GWII Part II), I'm going to check the credits now... :nervous:
