I'm so friggin pissed. I've never seen worse refrees/judges in all my life. And in the finale. :mad:
I wanted to go out there and rip them to tiny pieces with my bare hands. And this comes from me, who isn't that much into sport and is calm and collected on sport events.
Players got kicked in the balls, in the neck and in the stomach on multiple occasions.
It was like friggin Ultimate Fight and not handball! And the judges pretty much ignored it all. :beamz:
Anyone else watch this?

Watched it, and actually thought it was fairly good refereeing, especially considering the crazy setting where the refs basically had to use sign language as the audience were too loud. But then, I had no emotional stake in the final :D

Yeah, the Cardinals really got the short shrift on that one. A lot of people said there were several bad calls.

Yup. I'm talking about the World Handball Championship.
Host is Croatia. In the finals Croatia faced off against France.
Just before the finals both the coach of france and croatia expressed concerens because of the judges. The french coach then expressed additional concernes that he fears the judges would be infulenced by the audience too much and proposed the judges/referees having special
training so they can "resist" the influence.
What followed was a very hard game with Croatia leading after the first half. In the second half the play got a lot rougher and the referees started going totally insane. In 10 minutes of play croatia wasn't able to score a singel point, since their attacking players were mauled by frances defense (something the judges ignored) and the goals that were scored were abolished. When France was attacking the situation was reversed.
Basicely that would irritate the hell even out of Jesus. The players were pulling their hair out of frustration. The whole stadium was on it's feet yelling, people were protesting. No help. At that point it was still a tie. But mentally the croatian players were destraught. Vori got a red card for arguing with a referee. Well..and croatia lost in the end.
That match will put eternal shame on the WHF. Absolutely terrible.

Is handball that goofy team sport whose existence I'm only made vaguely aware of every four years thanks to the Olympics? Because when I hear the term, I generally think about the variant where you put on a glove and whack a little rubber ball around an enclosed room. :p

Meh..generally, I'm not a sporty person. I don't really have favorites clubs or teams in ANY team sports (football, handball,whatever). I don't watch much of it at all.
Rare exceptions would be world championships, but even then I miss more matches than I watch. Heck , I didn't watch half of the matches Croatia played in this championship. I'm rather ...distant when it comes to sport in general. I like sports, I just don't get as excited as other people about it.
And yet this match irritated me enough to post here...
Personally, I consider Handball the best team sport because of it's dynamic. I like it far more than football.

Handball is not squash. Think of a mix of football with basketball. It has a goal and the players have to dribble.

Very cool but the game seems to be played without any rules on, for example how and where you bounce the ball etc.
Also when i saw the title and first post i thought - kneed in the balls while playing squash without a racket - WTF?? :lol:

Ignoring Ultimate Frisbee, Handball is my favorite sport. Unfortunately, the media doesn't share that opinion. :(
