Hi. I was excited when I discovered that the 3.6.10 MediaVPs fixed the red alert bug that plagued the Homesick campaign, and promptly started playing it again. However, right when things started to get promising, I ran headlong into another game-crashing issue.
The mission "Ram Raid," which is the mission where you go on the offensive against the GTVI, causes the game to crash to desktop when the briefing starts. The briefing loads, and then the game promptly crashes; the first page briefing text doesn't even finish scrolling across the screen. What gives?

1. The red-alert bug is because of the FSO engine, not because of the MediaVPs.
2. The red-alert issue is more fixed in 3.6.10 builds than in 3.6.9, but it still pops up occasionally. The easiest solution is to just crudely extract any Homesick red-alert missions you encounter, edit them to non-red-alert missions and place them to \freespace2\homesick\data\missions. As James Hetfield would "sing": sad but true.

What does it say in your fs2_open.log if you try to run the mission with a debug build?

Hmmm. For some reason, I don't have a debug build for 3.6.10 on my comp; I have one for 3.6.9 in my backups, but there's no guarantee that would even help, since we don't know if this issue exists in the older build.

Just download the latest nightly build (link in my signature). The package contains regular and debug versions of both FSO and FRED.

Would this be the mission after you escort the Custodian and the Shield past the GTVI installation after luring the Mammon cruiser away? If so, I seem to be having the same problem. I've brought along a debug report...

Here's hoping this helps. And I think that Derelict trouble I was having is due to a bad version, cause the other mods have shown themselves to be pretty cooperative now that the GTVA Rapid Laser error's been fixed.

No, not that one; the one after that. Or maybe two missions after that; the running in the nebula gets repetitive. In any case, the mission before the crash I'm experiencing is the one where you're running to an unknown jump node when everyone but you and Beta 4 get hit with an EMP and have to defend the ships while the support ship fixes the other fighters. At the end of the mission, the Custodian says not to go into the node, and that they've come up with a plan to strike back at GTVI because they'll never stop chasing you as long as you run.

Well, in that case, a solution to both of our problems would be admirable. If my error gets fixed, I'll try playing through to your spot and seeing if it crashes and burns on me. In the meantime, I think you should get that debug build and run it first, though. When the game crashes, the debug build will record the data into an fs2_open.log inside of your Data folder. Open it, copy the spew (all of that nonsensical gibberish that you see), and then paste it into the topic. Be sure to bracket it in code to keep it nice.
