I noticed a stupid emoticon replacing 'alright'. It's common enough you can leave it alone, you damn grammar nazis.
-
Noticed it too. Could we also have a picture of a cannon replacing the word "cannon", because people often misspell "canon" as "cannon".
As for the word "alright", you can't stop us if we use "awright".

What's the chance that 'awright' is going to be replaced with the alright emoticon?
-
alot of turrents are alright
EDIT: what the FRAK admins, you got rid of the 'turrent' smiley in favor of correcting minor grammatical errors?!?!?!
I WASN'T EXPECTING THE GRAMMAR INQUISITION!
EDITER: Oooooooh, so it only catches turrent by itself. In that case, I request that you change things so that it accepts 'turrents' as well, alright? I'd like that alot.
-
alot of turrents are alright
alright, can it. I dislike these emoticons alot.
-
Alas, poor Yorick...a man of infinite jest, I knew him alot.
Seriously, the alright one is annoying. And I'm all for the "cannon" as misspelling of "canon", but what about legitimate uses for the word "cannon"?
-
alright is typically used differently than all right would be.

It's in the Dictionary.
-
that ain't nice :P

'All right' is the term deemed correct in academia. However to suggest that the abbreviated form is incorrect outside of this context (informal forum? hmmm....) is prudish especially as I remember it being told its use about 50:50 in print... in 1999. The debate about this word - it is a word, no longer a misspelling - started in the 1890s. Some things never change. ^_^

The real question is, how far will this go? Will the admins start favoring British spellings of words? If I type 'color' or 'center' will I have a condescending smiley mocking me because of my nationality. We cannot allow this! The HLP Administration is clearly in possession of and planning to use Filters of Pedantic Correction (FPCs). Therefore, we have no choice but to invade the control room and effect a regime change. Subspatial claymore mines be damned!
:rolleyes::p

I agree, All right isn't wrong, but neither is the common spelling, regardless of what Firefox's dictionary says.
-
Also, we'll just filter dodge. Alot.
-
We have to spell it "all right" ? Alright then.
-
Okay, let's just kill everyone.
-
It's going to become an acceptable term whether or not the grammar nazis like it. Language is more powerful than people with a hard-on for rules.
-
Turrent, I can understand. We can be sticklers about that. But alright? Seriously? I think it's a poor decision. Change it back.
-
turrent alot alright
Can we end this please?
-
Silly HLP Admins and your turrents.
-
To be honest, these signs are more annoying than the misspellings.
-
Just keep the turret one?
-
RRRRFRGHH

What I dislike is how commonly used spellings are being made fun of. I can understand "turrent", but I can't understand "alot" or "alright".
-
“A_lot” is definitely incorrect, in that it’s not in any official dictionary I’m aware of. “Al_right” does have a dictionary entry, as a variant (casual, non-standard) spelling. My vote would be to go with the dictionaries on this one, since in my view such humiliation tactics should be reserved for particularly egregious errors and not those that are somewhat debatable.

Ugh, agreed. This whole stupid mix-up thing has made me so mad.
-
Is this HLP Admin Stupidity month or something?
-
you know there re distinct differneces between american english and brittish english, for example us americans misspel lots of stuff. but making fun of it is racist or something.
-
I can already see this year's April First's prank...
-
Only problem was it happened on 2/1/09 instead of 4/1/09
-
It's an inquisition!
alright! alot!
I'm special!
I know I yelled alot there, alright?
-
alright alright alright alright
I think it's safe to say that this has been considered a bad move.

Learn to spell.
-
The single word version is a widely used colloquialism. For instance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alright). While you can argue that it is incorrect in formal writing, it's ridiculous to ban it in an informal one.
