i aslo added this to my website which you should check every now adn then for updates

Is that a ring world? If so the diameter is a bit small (judging by the apparent angle of the 'Arch' to the local horizontal).
Not bad.

i was having a hard time getting it to look huge - but bleive me the model its not small its over 20 Mm in diamter and the buildings are at best 500 meters tall
whiles its not as big as one that might go round a star its still amply huge - i will mess with it abit more might try making ti bigger

I suggest faking it with something akin to forced perspective. Sometimes, when you can't get something to look right, you have no choice.
Make a giant arch model and move it into place over the city. Don't make it as a circle, just a parabolic arch. Then scale it while looking from the camera's POV. I don't know which modeller you're using, so this might be difficult. Lightwave can't do this easily, but Truespace can. The idea is to keep the local ground flat, but this arch--whose ends cannot be seen from the camera--looks like a proper ringworld Arch due to the forced perspective of the local buildings.

Just a little comment, general dimensions for a Culture-built O are a width of about 10,000km and a diameter of 3 million km. So your O is definately too wide.

I'd hate to live on the edges of one of those :p

Tell me, who wrote the "Culture" series? I always put off finding out and whenever I'm at the library I waste time trying to figure it out.

Iain M Banks

Very nice! :nod::yes:

actually, so would :)

Take a look at the cover for Consider Phlebas, it gives you a pretty nice idea of what an Orbital would look like.

You mean where the tousand-kilometer walls are? ;)
-
The thousand kilometer transparent walls, you mean. :D
-
Yeah, those. :p
Although semi-transparent might be a better description.

It might feel weird as you bump into them just as you thought you had reached the end of the world. :D :p
