We need more new fighters and bombers. :D

This is looking good.

You and I would both be happier if it were a Terran corvette with a fighter bay.  :blah:

I'd suggest you do something about the nose, it's inspiration looks just a teensy bit too obvious. Not that it's a bad model, but I think using the Viper as inspiration for both the front and the wings might be a bit blatant.

It's up to you of course, but personally, I'd recommend keeping the wing set-up but changing the front.

The Falcon also has that nose shape.

Maybe so, but then, it doesn't have the wings to emphasise the point.

If he doesn't want to change it, he doesn't have to, just saying it as I see it ;)

Who said it wasn't meant to be a BSG ship? As far as I can tell there aren't many out there that aren't from BtRL or Diaspora.

Who said it was? No real definition was given.

If you like it as it is, then keep it as it is, but don't post an image on here and not expect to get people's opinions.

I don't think he was expecting people's opinions.

Who said it wasn't meant to be a BSG ship? As far as I can tell there aren't many out there that aren't from BtRL or Diaspora.

And on that matter, there's also not many BSG ships out there to begin with. ;)

Maybe if you rounded off the nose a couple meters back, it wouldn't look so much like the Viper.  Personally, having not seen the falcon, it looks kind of like a dragon from FS2

If I wasn't expecting peoples opinions, what would be the point of posting it in the first place?  :p

It's very pretty, however it doesn't fit FreeSpace universe.

Unfortunately I have to agree, but I'm pretty sure someone'll find a use for it  ;)

All this from me randomly deciding to turn the Falcon into a ship from Escape Velocity...

I'll say what I said on AIM, which is "awesome".

Well, make your cutsom mod for Diaspora(when released)/BtRL and include this as non-canon ship :)

Well I don't usually refer to just one little ship as a "custom mod" But really, I don't care what it's used for. I think it would fit will with FS or a BSG Mod, imo.

It'll probably never get released anyway, because i'm terrible at UV mapping.

I agree.

Since when does any ship not "Fit" in Freespace2? If we limit ourselves to what's cannon, what's the point in doing future mods and so based on this game? Just because it resembles something else in a different genre does not disqualify this design. If you still feel so, then your limiting yourself and your ideas in my opinion.  I think he's done a good job and should continue on!
Lastly, if you don't like it, that's still OK. Just don't use it for whatever your doing.

As for UV mapping, I'm pretty sure someone will step up and do this for you. Or at least give you help in what troubles you may have. Don't give up and stand your ground on your ideas if you feel good about them, take suggestions with good intentions, but don't incorporate anything unless you feel it's a good fit and idea.

Unlike texturing, nobody wants to do UV mapping for anybody. Why? Because it's long, frustrating, and boring.

The only hard part I see is the round nose, otherwise it looks reasonably easy.  Provided the underside isn't a monster

I should put a whole bunch of random crap under there now just because you said that.  :p
Anyways, the model is done, the only thing is that it's lacking a proper cockpit, which I can probably get blowfish to install.

@Blowfish Since you never log on AIM anymore and read just about every damn thing on HLP, here's the file:

You mean like this?  :D

It still needs recompressing and cleanup, but for only an hour of work.  Although I dunno what texturing style you use, so it might be completely useless for you.

I'm just going to give it to jadehawk to texture, since he seems to love doing it.
Edit: Wow, that was dumb, I forgot to thank you. But, anyway, thanks a bunch man  :D.

And this'll probably be the reason why FreeSpace will never be fully HTLed. :sigh:

Hahaha! I'd be happy to Texture this if ya want or if anyone else wants to try. Can't guarantee I'll have it right away as I got other stuff to do. But never say never ;)

I figure it should have two textures. A BSG Style one and an FS Style one. (If there is such a thing. FS seems pretty diverse when it comes to textures...)

Well here you go, uvmapped. You'll have to figure out which texture is which, 3ds file truncates filenames to 8.3.

Hey Scooby_Doo, that's one slick UV Mapping you did there! The way you have it layed out should really make this a breeze to texture. I wish those who UV map things would make them like this as it will make Texturers...if there is such a word, Have a much easier time!

Thanks for your effort!

Pretty sure scoob uses max, which not everyone here has access to.

Thanks, couple areas I'll warn you about right now.  On top, right behind the cockpit, (if you look at the first pic i posted, right around the area "E8" though "I8") there some slopes (for lack of a better word) I used a simple uv-planar map on them, they may be distorted a bit.  Also the nose, it was cut in three (top, side, bottom) and the top, bottom may also have some distortion. Normally I would fix this while I'm painting it if it became a problem.
