I know it's been brought up a lot recently, but really this time, are there any plans at all to bring FS1's original nebulae to FS2 SCP? The way I see it, it's really the only thing that wasn't remade to a better standard in the FSPort.
On a related subject, people playing the original campaigns on retail will get no stars at all, just the FS2 nebulae and blackness surrounding. Any plans to address this?

No current plans. This would depend on someone bringing the old nebula code up to date with the newest rendering code. Only taylor knows how to do that at the moment, and he's got other things on his plate.
One possibility would be to use skyboxes with the nebula patterns on them, but we'd need somebody to make the skyboxes.

That shouldn't be happening. Cite screenie and mission, please.

Err, never saw it myself but a friend of mine told me it happened to him. I'll check it out.
Though I did try a few tests of my own and saw that on SCP, with the FSPort-Mediavps off, it does happen. Not sure if this is affects retail though.

ARRRG!!! RETAIL!!!
God those days were great...

A higher quality version of those backgrounds would be pretty awesome.

Wow. SCP has come a long way since then. :D
-
Where is that screenshot from? I recognize the lines (Lt. Ash, FS1 intro), but when did someone make it into a mission and where can I find it?
EDIT: Never mind: found it in Goober's sig

I thought its a nebula like the one beyond Gamma Draconis. Now I see that it isn't :D

Uh, FS2 didn't even have those old backgrounds. Only FS1 did, so :v: scrapped them, not the SCP.

I downloaded and extracted it in a newly created folder called Ross_128.
Doesn't find it. FSO doesn't recognize it as a MOD, only retail campaign at the main hall. What should I do?
-
Place the Ross 128 VP in your fsport folder, select fsport as your MOD, and play the mission from the tech room. The VP should allow you to play fsport normally, but may conflict with other mods that use the port (ST:R, for example, will complain about missing ship models), so you'll have to remove the VP again if you want to play them.

Or do it the normal way: place to \freespace2\ross128\, put a mod.ini referencing the \fsport\ folder to \ross128\, select \ross128\ as mod folder.
The point still is that Ross 128 is a mission, not a campaign. That's why it must be played through the mission simulator.

Durrr, it was on the front page
The FS1 nebs had a different feel to them. I don't know if either would be 'better' per se (assuming FS1-looking nebs could be redone in FS2), but ... *reminisces*

It depends on the version. It was a single mission campaign at the beginning, but problems led Goober to turn it into a single mission.

No, you've got that exactly backwards. It was designed and intended to be a single mission all along. Problems with certain users running out of sexps led me to re-release it as a single-mission campaign for those people running on FS1 or retail FS2.
-
Aaargh. It was the contrary, then. :)

Wow.... even FS2 retail made a radical improvement on that, well, Freespace is Freespace

They remind me of the resource clouds from the original Homeworld.
Edit: Damn, now I want to play Homeworld again...
