Title: FS2 SCP + FS Port: what do I need
Post by: predator82 on February 08, 2009, 12:23:28 pm
Hi! I was looking for a good space sim and dug out my old FS2 CDs. Now I'm dying to try out the FS1 campaing and after it going trough FS2. What would I need to play both games with the great new graphics and detail (running on Vista 64)? I want to avoid compatibility-issues. Any order of installation I need to be aware?

Thanks!

Explained quite well in the release thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,58357.0.html). Download everything between the Core and the Media VP pack, then follow the (FSO) installation instructions.

Oh, right. You only had retail FS2 installed. In that case, follow the instructions here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47640.0.html), then do what I described before. FSPort will run on retail FS2, but it would lack the graphical improvements.

Just curious: what are the "FS1 DVD Hi-Res Textures" and why do I not need them?

If I'm not mistaken, that pack contains the ultra-high-resolution texture maps for all FS1 ships and many FS2 ships. Which is basically the same thing as the MediaVPs. That's why you don't need them if you're using the regular and the FSPort MediaVPs.

Those textures are from the OEM DVD of FS1, and are at a significantly higher resolution than the maps that came with FS2. With the Media VPs they're obsolete now but if you're still stuck in 1999 (i.e. running retail) you'll probably want them.

so... I've solved a problem with my originally german version (this explains my bad english...) Now I'm struggeling with the configuration of the launcher.

In my FS2 Folder I have 4 subfolders:
data
fsport
fsport-mediavps
mediavps

Is this correct?

Now, when I want to play FS2 I chose the mediavps folder in the "mod" section of the launcer. Seems to work.
When I want to play FS1port: do I select fsport (then the ship-models in the tech-section look a little outdated) or fsport-mediavps?

Select FSport-mvps, and it will load everything in the correct order.
