Title: NuRTIE
Post by: brandx0 on February 11, 2009, 06:03:11 pm
Well, time to post up a WIP of this baby:

P.S. I've officially renamed her to NuRTIE because NuNuTIE Sounds too Anime-ish.

Uh, what?  Did you miss the part where his hard drive died and he lost all the old TIEs?  Or do you just mean, why is it so awesome?

*Nu-Nu disapproves your naming conventions

 :p

It looks great and consistent with the look of the Y-Wing. The earlier ones had shiny textures, these ones are more subdued and better matching to Star Wars universe.

In other words,

What, did he lose the NEW TIE fighter (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,58278.0.html) he did in December?!

Yes, I lost everything.  Including NuTIE

Wow, when your HD crashed, did you somehow come back with the power of perfected textures and lighting, because while your stuff was always good, these new renders really show off the detail in a most realistic atmosphere.

Are you going to do the ANH TIE Fighter as well?  (white-gray hull coating as opposed to the blue-gray that ESB and RotJ use).

Brandx0's new official title is The Phoenix.  From the ashes of the crashed hard drive rises brandx0 - extreme modeler extraordinaire!

I can't wait to see your new Interceptor and Bomber models.

Not only that maje, his new computer is so much faster that what used to take 30 minutes to render on his old one now takes a couple of minutes, so he kept increasing his render settings until he was back up to that half hour minimum render time :)

very nice...but aren't the twin laser cannons too far apart? I dunno anymore, but it seems so.

will u be making cockpits simultaneosly so the first shipset comes with them included?

A star wars space combat simulator never comes without cockpit :)
Title: Re: NuRTIE
Post by: brandx0 on February 12, 2009, 03:05:15 pm
The lasers are fine where they are.  The EGVV has them horribly oversized, which is a fault that has entered most every other Star Wars game.  They match up with the real model quite well.

Also there will be cockpits eventually, but we feel it's more important to have ships to fly in before we start jumping into custom cockpits for every fighter.  They'll come soon enough though

Also another WIP Update

Stupid question, but how many of these ships are actually in-game?
Title: Re: NuRTIE
Post by: chief1983 on February 12, 2009, 03:22:47 pm
Well since he just restarted a month ago, not really any of them.  We had a couple testing versions of some of them in game but now we'll have to be starting over with the conversions.  Once Brand gets caught back up to a decent point I think we'll be trying to get them in game.
Title: Re: NuRTIE

What do you mean "in game?" We're not making a game here!
=P

EDIT:

Quote

[13:36] <@Brand-X> lol, willl there be no end?
[13:45] <Shade> No. No, it will not. Might as well get it over with and go insane now - It'll ease the pain at least

I think I'm going to take Shade's advice...

It's not a stupid question, I just started a topic in the internal on that matter.

Hi! Brand Your Y-wing cause my depression  :D but few days later I think why I shouldn't try it on my own so here is my first attempt with adding details on TIE-interceptor:

I love it. The TIE was always the most distinctive fighter in the OT. It looked the most like a spaceship, instead of just a funky aerofighter.

What does the R in NuRTIE stand for? NuReduxTIE?

Could we have a rear shot? I'd like to see the red bits. :)

He might not have done the rear bits yet.

You should have went with Nu2Tie.  At the rate he makes new models you'll run out of superlatives too fast.  :pimp:
Title: Re: NuRTIE
Post by: brandx0 on February 13, 2009, 04:19:08 pm
Nah, I'm not planning on giving every model a different superlative.  I needed a new one for the TIEs because I already did a Nu series.  the NuY and NuX are the first redos.  The Star Destroyer is a toughie though, Nu4ISD?

Never fails: come to the FotG board, there's a new kickass ship.  Someone says the dimensions are off, and they're wrong.  Yessir, just another day here.  Brand X is the James Brown of modeling.

Fix the cigarette lighter.

And so another TIE derailing begins.......

With all the derailings you wonder why they put them anywhere near train tracks.

Don't suppose you could work in a Mystery Woman hellbent on retribution for being dumped at her wedding as Princess Leia's alter ego?

hey jacek why don't you concentrate your talent in making crafts that no one started yet, like the stormtrooper transports and so on?

I agree, that spider pattern doesn't fit.

very nice...but aren't the twin laser cannons too far apart? I dunno anymore, but it seems so.

A star wars space combat simulator never comes without cockpit :)
As long as he said he followed the models (which IMO are the ultimate authority on this kind of thing) I trust brandx's judgment in accuracy. It looks great to me. Can't wait to vaporize them. Awesome job so far! ^_^b

I stand corrected, the spider pattern is evident on the TIE cockpit ball but it's very subtle.

Bah, why'd you have to ask that.  Now he's going to have to spend 1 rendering hour making renders of with and without the normal map on :)

spiderman ship?? hmm... maybe  :D so it looks like I should change it...

aRaven: I thought that all ships are assigned to modelers but If You are sure that nobody is creating stormtrooper transport I may do this but I will have one request for blueprints, screenshots or photos because I don't find enough on google.
Title: Re: NuRTIE
Post by: Black Wolf on February 16, 2009, 11:59:44 am
The stormtrooper transport gets a lot of mention around here, but from a FREDding PoV it's usefulness would be a little limited, and generally a Lambda would be more useful. Alternately, you could try a Cloakshape (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/CloakShape_fighter). Nobody's started one of them AFAIK. Or an Action VI Transport (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Action_VI_transport).
