Title: Supercap - Juggernaut type ship
Post by: Killer Whale on February 14, 2009, 03:45:18 am
Can someone tell me a couple of Terran 5-10km ships. At the moment all i've got are Freespace 2, FSport, INFR1 and Blue Planet ships.

From INFR1, the GTCa Warlock, SODn Solaris, and EACa Telemus fit this specification.

Also, there's the GTVA Titan (Not the destroyer from Blue Planet AoA, a different one, but incidentally, it is going to be a United Earth ship in WiH).

Out of those I'd probably go for the Solaris. I was thinking (very unlikely to actually happen) of a campaign that's chiche sol return, except that your in Sol. I was wondering what to use as a colossus-like, superpowerfull, symbol of the GTA bigship. All the ships in inferno are either a little small or a hundred times to large (exaggeration).

Any GTJ warships floating around? The solaris is a bit too state-of-the-art the warlock just makes itself look smaller than it is (don't ask me how, it's like comparing the inside of an Arcadia with flying around the inside of the damned Melia) and the Telemus is a little too cheap (low poly)

There are two Archangels out there - one a huge friggin beam cannon (StrattComms I think) and one a battleships (mine, but  just a tad below 5km in length)

there's also another huge warship but  I can't remember it's name atm...

The GTVA Titan is a good choice, but the POF needs tweaking to work, IIRC.

There are some which are smaller than 5km you could try: GTCa Galaxy, GTSD Odin, SOSD Olemus, EASD Nemesis
You can export to COB, change the scaling factor, and re-import if you want to make these bigger.

Try the TSJ Icanus for size. That thing's only smaller than the SSJ Gigas and SH Gargant.

How big is the GVSD Het-ka, by the way?

You mean the GVSD Het-ka?
Its 3.5 km IIRC.

IIRC the Icanus is a few meters bigger than the Gigas. Might be wrong.

The Gigas is longer, but the Icanus is probably much more massive because its wider and is a solid-ish brick with another one glued onto its side instead of having spikes.

The GVSD Het-Ka is so repulsive to look at that you're much better off using the Tanen or Kabechet.

Crap. Fixed.

The GVSD Het-Ka is so repulsive to look at that you're much better off using the Tanen or Kabechet.

Really? I, on the other hand, felt that the Tanen was an abomination. It's huge and it seems to have pathetic fighter defences.

I don't think I've ever seen a Kabechet in action before.

Actually, he just did further detailing on a redesigned Tanen made by Galemp.

Well, regardless, the one in COTS shippack is decent.

Turn to cob, change scale factor, turn back to pof, sounds good!! Hmm, now which one do i do it to... Nemesis...? I was thinking of using that one a lot but it was just too small.

Hmm, i'll convert it to cob and have a look see.

Edit: Unfortunately I have truespace 7.6 which isn't compatible with cob files.  :hopping:

It doesn't matter. You can set COB scaling factor in PCS2 (under preferences) :D

After an hour or two of fiddling  :mad2:, I've worked out this...

how do you do it? (change the scale factor) I've changed the number several times, clicked okay, saved in the right spot, opened up fred and it's still a little over 3km in size.

And i'd like truespace that understands cobs and with trueview anyway, i'd like a chance at fiddling around with models.

Well, this is what I do:
1) Open the model with PCS2
2) Without changing anything, save it as a COB
3) Go to Preferences in PCS2, and change the COB scaling factor (from 20.00 to something like 40.00 )
4) Open the saved COB.
5) Save as a POF.

Instructions on how to rescale using PCS2?
Or instances of user-made juggernauts?

Not to my knowledge.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think all the pof data will get re-scaled properly....

Oh right crap. It won't.
I forgot that I had to clean up stuff afterwords, mostly LODs, which somehow get borked.
As well as turrets...and subsystems occasionally.

Lol, even I know what truespace is.

Possibly the worst 3d app in the world.

The fact it's widely used makes it worse.

You don't NEED truespace to rescale.
You just need to be good at editing POF data in PCS2.

If you tell me what you have in mind, I'll rescale it. Its a five minute job for me.

Please, please, please tell me you're not considering exhuming that... thing. It needs to be dismantled and buried in soft peat for the next thousand years.

TrashMan fixed up the Tanen a bit so it's not so CANNOT UNSEE.

The original renovation was mine. I don't particularly like Trashman's modifications.

Ah, well, I just got it from his shippack, and it had all his funky recolored SCap02 window textures on it so I just assumed he did it :P

Actually I was hoping to use it in fiddling around with ship building. I've got a couple of ideas I'd like to have a go at.
