i'm getting the following message when I try to run FS1 or FS2 retail "Freespace has detected that you only have n MB of free memory. Freespace requires at least 32MB of memory to run."
I found the following suggestion under general problems.
Most likely you're trying to play retail FS2 with too much RAM ( > 2GB), though this is known to occur with older versions of FSO. Download and use the latest nightly build.
That's fine for FS2 retail but doesn't help me with FS1. I have several campaigns I am working on converting and need to be able to run FS1. How can I get around this problem so I can run FS1?

Decrease RAM. That's how the retail engines work. After 2GB, the game starts counting the amount backwards so the more you have it, the less it will appear to the game, even up to negative values. There's really no other solution. Take RAM away or find a computer with less RAM and install FS1 there.

You could give compatibility mode a shot but I doubt it helps with the RAM problem.
-
Would it help to consume the extra ram? Or is it merely an adressing problem..
-
You're using the disk set and not the FSO laucher?
Get the game from Good old Games, I've ran it before without altering anything with 4GB RAM. :D

The topic was FS1.

Run a virtual PC and configure it to have less than 2GB of RAM? Seems a bit excessive admittedly. :)

GoG has FS1.

But FS1 is not related to FSO.

Well the forum does say FreeSpace & FreeSpace Open support. :pimp: Come to think of it what's FreeSpace Open? I know what FreeSpace 2 open is. :nervous:
Lobo just can't believe he missed that it was about FS1. :p
