Yep, I get this error message when I commit to start the first FS2 campaign mission.
I am:
using Launcher 5.5d
using the latest mediavps mod (Freespace II - 3.6.10 MediaVPs) and this is the one that is MANUALLY DOWNLOADED AND PLACED correctly
using fs2_open_3_6_10.exe
If I dont use mediavps, or I choose to use the 3.6.9 exe instead, then I dont run into the problem, however, I prefer to use 3.6.10 exe and mediavps 3.6.10 because the graphics are so much nicer :lol:
I tried to make another pilot and replay the campaign with the 3.6.10 exe and mediavps 3.6.10, but that didn't work either.
Thats problem #1
And now for problem #2
the manually downloaded mediavps 3.6.10 came with it a edited version of some music tracks that made me spew (literally). Is there anyway to use the slightly older music vp file without messing things up?
That is all, help is GREATLY appreciated ;)

Can you run a debug build (should be called something like 3.6.10d.exe) and post the log here? It can be found in the data/ directory in your fs2-folder.

Also, if you want to get rid of the high-quality music tracks, remove mv_music from your MediaVPs folder.

Which, according to above posts, is corrupted.

Your local copy is. The one on the other end of that link isn't (propably :nervous:). I would recommend getting the Hashes (http://www.freespacemods.net/files/MVP3610/Hashes.txt), starting the MVP download and then use hashtab (http://beeblebrox.org/hashtab/) or this Firefox-Plugin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8404) to check for corruption. Alternatively, you COULD use the Bittorrent version. That one should be errorproof.

okay, downloading from sectorgames now
downloaded the mediavps from sectorgames, deleted the complete vp file in my mediavps file and replaced it with the new one.
Its still showing the same error when I try to play the main campaign :no:

Ya-ha! While viewing your log for the second time, I spotted fails:
Initializing OpenGL graphics device at 640x480 with 16-bit color...
1. That resolution is horrible. I'm certain you're able to run on at least 1024x768.
2. The actual issue: 16-bit colours. They make things look bad and can also cause errors.

I changed my resolution and colour depth settings, but it still brings up the error when I try to load the mission =/

Run the debug build again. Then, check the fs2_open.log and find the line that says

If the number at the end is 5253, there is something strange going on.
If the number is something other than 5253, your MediaVPs are still corrupt. If this is the case, continue redownloading until they are complete.
If you downloaded the separate MediaVPs (Assets etc.), just check the lines for each (not MV_Music) and count the numbers together. They, too, should sum up to 5253.

I had the complete vp file, along with those other 3 files you need to complete the mediavps.
I really doubt downloading it again will do any difference, seeing as I used all the different mirrors.
And I haven't got infinite downloads :p

It still doesn't have the correct number of files. Try renaming the mediavp directory to something like mediavp.old, create a new one, rebooting and downloading it again. Something might just have that file locked and it's not getting overwritten. Never heard of anyone having to download this many times before.

I just used fs2_open_3_6_10-20071007T.exe with the recreated mediavps file, and the mission loaded up, however, the NTF Hercules fighters were ulysses class.

I just skimmed through both of the logs and noticed that log #1 has around 5200 files while the other has 4988 (around those numbers). I was using the same mediavps.

If Hercs are changed to Ulysses, there is an interfering mod in the works. However, since there are no extra .vp files anywhere according to the log, there could be something in \freespace2\data\ and/or \freespace2\mediavps\data\. Go through the folders and see if there's anything in them, especially in the \data\tables\ folders.

That is exactly what I'd expect. If the error isn't given the game simply changes any unknown class into a Ulysses (or whatever the default is).

I'm pretty sure an 8500 GT can run at better than 640x480. I also have to wonder if nVidia graphics drivers are being used or Microsoft windows drivers
