The HTL models for the GTF Apollo and the GTF Valkyrie aren't appearing for me. All I get are the original models. Help would be appreciated.
-
How did you download these models? what file type are they? where did you put the files?
-
what does your fsport mediavps mod.ini file have in it?
-
Is it JUST the Apollo and Valkyrie, or have you only just started the campaign?
-
His port (or port mediavp) mod.ini is messed up or something, I've had this happen before myself.
Tell us how you downloaded the files, and if applicable, post the contents of your mod.ini in your port folder.
-
Okay, it was like this.
I was waiting for Turey to upload the 3.10 MediaVPs to his installer, and when he did, I tried to download them. But for some reason, I couldn't get them. So I emptied my MediaVP folder, and the installer gave me the 3.10. (I had some custom tables linking to the MediaVP folder, if that is of any significance.)
After this, I checked Freespace 2's laboratory function, and the Ulysses and several other models were improved. When I checked FSPort, however, I was perplexed as to the lack of updated Apollo and Valkyrie models. This is when I reached the conclusion that I had to update the FSport files as well. I downloaded the FSPort MediaVPs and tested it. No difference. I downloaded the Core file for FSPort. Still no difference. (The mod file was replaced about 3-4 times during this.) I then downloaded Launcher 5.5d to replace 5.5c. And finally, I downloaded the most recent FreeSpace Open builds and tried them. Still no difference.
I am also confused by a couple of other things:
-As soon as I tested the recent builds, I noticed that the Avenger projectiles looked... underwhelming when compared to the other lasers/weapons. Could it be a similar problem, or is there an option I forgot to turn on?
-Though I'm fairly sure that they're the HTL models, the PVF Horus and the PVC Aten aren't quite as reflective/shiny in the laboratory as I've seen them in screenshots. Not sure why this is.
Hope that helps. I'll try to get screenshots to help with the effort.
Edit: These screenshots were taken in the fs2_open_3_6_10 build, and not the more recent fs2_open_3_6_10r-20081210_r4989 build. Would using a debug build help?

Run a debug build and post your fs2_open.log (from \freespace2\data\).
-
Most likely you don't have your mod.ini configured properly for your folders. Double check the contents of that with your directory names, following Vasudan Admiral's guide in the release thread.
-
Well, this is odd. I downloaded a bunch of new files through Turey's installer, and lo and behold, there was a new folder, designated fsport-mediavps. I tested it out, and save for the strange Avenger projectiles, everything worked as expected. Only problem now is, while trying to play ST:R, no matter how many times I alter the mod file, I can't get it to accept the mediavps. There is no effect when I place them in either primarylist or secondarylist in the mod file.
First, the file looked like this:
[launcher]
modname = Silent Threat: Reborn v1.0;
image255x112 = fsport-str.bmp;
infotext = As the Great War rages on, you've been commissioned by Galactic Terran Intelligence for special intelligence operations. Your objectives are to contain the Shivan onslaught and preserve the fragile Terran-Vasudan alliance. But a series of suspicious events cloud the GTI's spotless record. Is the GTI setting you up or are the Shivans spreading their evil rage?;
website = http://fsport.hard-light.net/website/str/;
forum = http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,140.0.html;
[multimod]
secondarylist = fsport;
Then I added fsport-mediavps to the secondarylist, but then the launcher refused to run, citing an error in the naming structure. So I renamed the fsport-mediavps to fsport_mediavps, tested to see if it still worked, and then added it to the secondarylist of ST:R. Still no results.
Also, while in debug mode, in the laboratory, when I selected GTF Apollo, LOD 0, I got the following message:

I hope I'm not being too much of a bother here...
-
It'll almost certainly be incorrect folder setup/naming/mod ini/launcher mod flag settings - all of which are covered in the guide. I could be wrong but it sounds like you've followed a few parts of the guide, but not everything.
Follow the guide step by step at the bottom of the release post: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,59120.0.html Make sure it's set up exactly as the guide details - skip nothing and do nothing different, and it should work. :)

Much better!
I've got two more issues involving the game right now, but I'd hate to trouble you with them at the moment. So I leave you with my thanks.
-
Go ahead and let us know -- there are plenty of people willing to help.
Odds are they're easy problems to fix.
-
Okay.
Problem 1.
As I play ST:R, the models of missiles, fighters, and warps are garbled. It's probably a common problem, but what's the solution?
Problem 2.
I'm playing Blue Planet, and there are these cutscenes in the middle of the mission. But when I regain control of my ship, my HUD has disappeared. Again, this is probably a common issue, but help would be appreciated nonetheless.
Thank you for all the assistance up to this point.

Screenshots of the first, please.

Press Shift+O .

EDIT: There's also an issue with the PVI Karnak which causes the game to crash.

There's some weird corruption going on... it might be cleared up with something as simple as a reboot of your computer to flush the memory cache.
-
Just out of curiosity, are you attempting to use the MV_Advanced.vp, and is your video card what one would call...not so spectacular? Because those are just about the exact same graphical glitches I was seeing when enabling the 3.6.10 Advanced VP on my dinky Radeon X300. If this is the case, try removing MV_Advanced.vp from your mediavps directory to see if the issue goes away.
-
My fsport weapons also had messed up alpha, particularly the Avenger and Prometheus. I recently switched from the separate 3.6.10 mediavp files to MV_Complete.vp, and haven't checked if that resolved anything, though.
