Title: Widescreen (16:10) Monitor: Recommended FOV?
Post by: Mr_Maniac on March 08, 2009, 07:28:40 am
Hi there.
I have a widescreen monitor (16:10) for a while now and was wondering if there is a recommended FOV-Setting for Widescreen resolutions.
Today I tried to set a FOV that would be the FOV if my monitor were a window in FS2 (~30 Degrees).
Well... This setting is impressive since everything is real huge. But what do you think?

Fov is mostly a matter of opinion. Use the value that looks best to you. I think I have it at .37 or .39. Can't remember and can't check since I'm not at home right now.

Well, if you have a really small monitor, then 0.30 means you will be looking through a very small window. If you have a large monitor, change the setting to be "realistic" if you have that preference. If you really care about aiming (and are not the best person on the planet at it), then a higher fov (~0.65) is usually used to make following the lead indicator easier. As Lobo said, it's your choice - experiment.

My $0.02: I've been using .55 since widescreen support first showed up, and it has been working rather well for me.

I've found that widescreen at 1680x1050 skews the interface and HUD art so badly that I just play in a 4:3 resolution.  But that's on a 22" monitor.

Are you referring to the builds since the widescreen fix?  I play it just fine in 1920x1200 on my 24" widescreen, with no noticeable distortion at all.
