Title: CTD using 3.4b <Fixed>
Post by: Hals on March 08, 2009, 08:14:32 am
Hi, long time B5 fan and lurker. I've had 3.4b for some time and have had no issues with it at all prior to the following.
I recently downloaded the campaign pack v2.0 and have experienced some CTD's after the loading screen. Theses are specifically only on the Severed Dreams, Points of Departure and Long Twilight Struggle missions.
I've ran them in standard build and inf.build but no joy.
I am unsure how the debug thing works, does anyone have an idea of the problem ? I've searched but haven't managed to find an answer.
Thanks !

I am unsure how the debug thing works
The debug build spews error reports a lot mroe often, since it yells at even the most insignificant errors. But it will also generate a log of what happens while it is run. So if you can OK yourself through other error messages and play with the debug build until it crashes during the loading screen, the log might reveal what makes the game crash at that point.

The log is called fs2_open.log and it will be in your \thebabylonproject\data\ folder.

Two things you can try.  First create a new pilot file.  If that doesn't work try a 3.6.10 build from the recent builds forum.  It's not officially supported but I noticed that at least the mission from the log was a red-alert mission and there was a bug in 3.6.9.  Strange no one else has reported this though.

Ok, thanks for the response.
3.6.10 works in all those missions (meaning I can actually get into the mission) but still CTD's when the jumpgate is activated by incoming vessels.

I'll keep plodding on with it, tried a new pilot too.

Run the debug build for 3.6.10 and post that log.

Ok, had many warnings during loading and this time it CTD'd straight after loading.
Here's the log...

You either don't have TBP 3.4b final or you install is corrupted.  The B5-Core-3_4.vp file has the wrong checksum and is missing files.   I'd suggest making sure you have 3.4b final and reinstalling.

Oh rats !

I actually downloaded 3.4b the other night and when I came to install it the file wouldn't extract - it was corrupt.

So I reinstalled an older version (this was still indicated as 3.4b !?) I already had on disk.

Ah well.  I'll redownload the whole shebang again.

Thanks for the help, it's appreciated.  :)

Re-downloaded - everything works a charm. !!

Thank you very much.
