When playing trough ST:R, I noticed that on a few missions, there was a flashing red blip on the radar, which seemed to had no purpose at all. I tried investigating this blip, and failed.
I feel like being watched.
-
I only noticed this in the Last Hurrah but decided not to look because it had me flying on a course facing the star
lol
-
It's for the event music.
-
O I C
-
It's for the event music.
Is there a reason why there isn't a SEXP which allows us to trigger the music manually?
(and I understand it wouldn't be used in FSPort cuz it has to be retail compatible, but still)
-
Is it just me, or would keeping retail compatability hold out on some possible features that STR could have had?
-
Certain things would have been easier, like the Sneak attack in "Blood of the Innocents". And I ran out of sexps two-thirds of the way through FREDding "He Who Rides the Tiger", so I had to go over the events with a fine-toothed comb to squeeze every last node I could out of them. (Take a look at all the send-message-list conversations in that mission.)
But ST:R does has a bunch of FSO features; they're just not activated in retail due to judicious version-specific commenting. The custom main halls, custom debriefing personas, cruiser nameplates, ai profile, FS1 music tracks, and FS1 hud are all FSO features.

Heh. It may be for the event music, but it sure as hell has a big psychological effect. :P

You ran out of SEXPs!? Is that possible?

You know I hadn't actually ever considered that... but you're right. :D

New music means you need another main hall.

Yes, retail FS2 has a sexp limit.
-
I didn't get the fso features. How do you activate them?

They should be activated just by using FSO...
Yes, retail FS2 has a sexp limit.

;;FSO 3.6.0;;+Name: Some Event
;;FSO 3.6.0;;+Repeat Count: 1
;;FSO 3.6.0;;+Interval: 1
Or something like that ... such SEXPs would be ignored by retail, and as such would not count toward that SEXP limit.

You misunderstand. I ran out of sexps in "He Who Rides the Tiger" when I was using verbose events. With judicious optimization I got it down below the retail sexp limit.

About the flashing blip: I thought that it was an egg about secret GTI rebels observing important operations the player happened to participate in and how they affected GTI Operations.

It is. That has always been the intention. You are correct. It was always our objective to have that blip visible. We have always been at war with Eurasia.

Rofl.

Congrats, Interceptor rations have gone up from 30 to 10.
-
What kind of ship/object is it, anyway?
-
You could always look at the mission file...

Hey it can be the new "Silent Hill Fog". Cause when they originally designed the fog for Silent Hill (1999) it was put in on purpose so the game didn't look too much like crap and ran smoothe and it ended up adding atmosphere.
-
There's a blip? I didn't notice.
-
There's a blip? I didn't notice.
You're not supposed to.
-
Then why wasn't it stealthed instead of just hidden-from-sensors?
-
Because stealth enemies don't trigger the music.
-
Oh.
